its funny how gsm arena slams sony for following and not setting where almost every phone brand copied in my opinion worst (noth) design from ifruit.
Cant wait for release of latest vivo concept without selfish camera (for narcissistic people) lol

Sony's dropping 3.5 mm jack is acceptable, though I don't like it. It is market trend, and Sony is not alone. Sony has no power to lead or set or resist the smartphone market trend. I will not blame Sony for the trend.
But Sony should do its homework to make doing away with 3.5 mm acceptable for consumers: Make the audio transmission over wired USB-C or wireless Bluetooth as painless and ubiquitous as 3.5 mm jack.
Sony is still a big name of world fame in audio equipment and earphone/head phone. Make all future Sony audio equipment have USB C audio port or wireless Bluetooth receiver capability. Make Bluetooth earphone as good and affordable as wired earphone of Sony.

Anonymous, 14 Mar 2018Unfortunately they don't follow succesful things.
Droppi... moreBuddy you're in the minority. Most "people" are not in favor of removing the jack.
Also, Samsung sales are much higher than Huawei sales. I don't know why you compared those two...

I honestly think that Sony should post a message on fb or their website, asking it's loyal fans and not only, to submit their concept designs for future phones and possible features.
After that make a poll in which everyone can vote the top 3 designs let's say and MAKE THEM HAPPEN!
In fact, I think ever brand should approach this way.
You get win-win = everyone's happy.
There are some brilliant people out there that can design phones that will make you faint when you see them..
Instead Sony decided to go with a "blind" designer that lives in the past..

There's more money in wireless and USB connected headphones. A lot more money. That is the reason some manufacturers are trying to force the change.
The solution for consumers is simple. Don't support the brands doing this. In Sony's case it is rather easy as virtually no one buys their phones.

When other kids jump off a bridge, I don't see a reason why you should also do it. It's just not good, personally I would have a difficult time having a phone without headphone jack because I don't always want to carry an extra cable with me when I also can carry only my headphones. And no, I don't want to use bluetooth headphones just because I have to.

Do they not have the old "IF all your friends jumped off a cliff, would you?" lecture in Japan?

My LG V30, which is slimmer and has smaller bezels than the new Xperias *and* a larger battery, also has a headphone jack for some reason. Because it's obviously impossible to put a headphone jack into such a phone, did LG have to resort to some sort of black magic for that? Do I have a cursed phone now? *L*
Seriously, I'm glad that the new Xperias look way more modern than the previous year's edition. But the missing headphone jack was what pushed me towards the LG V30 in the end. I literally ordered it the day the new Xperias were unveiled.

Unless the phone is too thin or the space inside is very limited I don’t see why you would not fit one. Apple probably removed it to sell AirPods because they still have it in their MacBooks. Google did the same to sell Pixel Buds. The problem is that others probably did it just because it’s a trend. Sony supports this trend because they sell some very good wireless headphones that people will buy if there are no more headphone jacks in the world. And remember, 300€+ for top of the line wireless headphones! They probably make more money than by selling phones.

No increase in battery capacity
Thickest phone BY FAR of 2018
Heavier than their predecessor
Bezels still big, side bezels especially
Still only one camera sensor
Of course they had to say such ridiculous thing like following the market because they know their consumers aren't getting new features or improvements instead are getting absolutely nothing by removing the jack compared to their competitors or even the previous XZ1.
And according to their fabulous designers what we gained is an outdated, ugly new language design that nobody asked for that looks like your generic cheap Chinese phone. I can already see those record breaking sales....

FinnishInquisition, 14 Mar 2018HTC U11 outsold its predecessors. Pixel 2 outsold its prede... moreOf course not. We are very dependent of our phones hence we have to buy one every once in a while so the companies that rule the smarphone market will not be affected. It is still inconvenient not to have a hedphone jack. Sony supports this trend because they probably saw an increase in their wireless headphones business. They apparently sell some very good ones. I would not be surprised if Sony makes more money that way than from their smatphone division.
