21 March 2018
Apple allegedly reduced the bill of materials by 10% compared to the iPhone X, allowing it to use a pricey OLED screen on the cheaper model.

Anything they can save money on research is good for them.
They spend less and more leaves for them.
Thats why companies copy each other to save money and earn more.
Adding something new for them but something which is used for several months or years by someone else. Like face scanner Superamoled etc.
Buying existing technology is much cheaper than researching one.

And pretty much every 720p and onward phone has been retina. Most phones for years are more retina than iPhone is.

Others have way more in r&d than apple but still cost less.
And typical copy and paste is what apple is king at. And of course not with stuff like ram or a quality battery that has a normal capacity. Because apple knows they can skip it on thing like that, charge more for it, and actually get defended for doing so by millions of people just like you.

Apple's R&D is not like typical android R&D - copy paste, add RAM, over clock CPU etc etc See your fav Samsung's got R&D also and their phone is also cost around 1000$ - but no proper software update, lags, wired looking icons and UI, duplicate apps.

Hope its not frsudulent like the last one, claiming a screen size it doesn't have, the 5.3" xphone with ugly screen encroaching bat ears was called 5.7" as a spec marketing ploy to compete with Samsung. How do like you sprware cam, grilled or fried.

They cost more in hardware, software, security, research and development, accessories and bundled items "deals or freebies", and are on par in marketing. And still cost less. So your point is excessively flawed on all sides.

And even if they were exactly the same ass apple and just as over priced and didn't have more into their cost.... that wouldn't make my statement any less true... it would just mean it wad also the same for them. But this page and comment wasn't about them.....duh??????????????????????

Apple can charge that much because it can, not because it has to. Most of the stuff you mentioned as factors of expense exist in other competitors too which still sell handsets that undercut Apple prices. Samsung also developed its own chipset (Exynos) and often develops its own alternatives to Google properties (Samsung Pay, Bixby, Tizen etc.). Advertising and other expenses are also things all OEMs have to account for. The key difference is that Apple as a brand offers exclusivity, USPs and value-added incentives which play a role in establishing the 'Apple ecosystem' of connected devices. This along with its brand appeal are things people are willing to pay extra for which further feeds demand. Granted there are other factors which literally make other OEM's products cheaper to produce, most of the mark-ups in Apple products are strictly brand related.

I went BSc SE and I'm a major developer right now. (excels Snapdragon coding, and Ax series. because my work requires working with both iOS (BLEH) and Android (Woo!))
