Kiyasuriin, 29 Mar 2018Not exactly... Let me explain in racing cars example Let's... moreSo let me explain it in race car way so you could understand WTF is wrong with exynos! As you said exynos have much more top speed but less acceleration and snapdragon in the opposite way!
Most of time our need to cell phone is like a drag race which need fast acceleration in short time rather top speed in long time!

Anonymous, 29 Mar 2018This is not how a speed test should be done. A real speed /... moreExactly, emulating shows real capabilities of devices, not reloading apps from RAM memory

Speed test has nothing to do with CPU or you speed, so before crying about chipset learn facts, it's mostly software optimisation and memory management and speeds comes to speed test. I bet with few patches Samsung will fix optimizations with Exynos chipset and it will reload apps as fast as Snapdragon, just for the clear view Exynos destroys Snapdragon 845 chipset performance wise and there is not a single chance Snapdragon can compete in CPU speed

AnonD-745687, 29 Mar 2018Do not worry, you are not alone with this... It was good on... moreLol, armchair commentators. Try telling that to the army of Apple fans that are buying Iphone 8 and 8s despite it having the same design for even more generations, look up an iphone 5 compared to an 8 and they even look near identical. the iphone 4 doesn't even look that different from the front (of course they will have got a bit thinner). That is considering it's an even more out of date design from the get go due to larger bezels, plain square design glass layout and many other things. They charge a premium for that crap too, lets be honest, no one cares what you think when Samsung is still way ahead of most of the competition (iphone is dragging it's heels and same design for years unless you buy the ugly notch, many Chinese brans are just imitating the notch design, Sony are taking too long to move away from large bezels and many others when doing a fair comparison are just not that different or have the notch to spoil it). The design still works, short of complaining it's unchanged (and again, iphone holds the record for making idiots pay for badly repackaged designs with low effort) then there's just little sense in complaining about the design as it can't really improve much..

This is why Qualcomm don't give a damn f*** when Samsung announced the doubled single core performance, they know what it costs which don't pay the bill for daily tasks performance.

If you run the Exynos vs the SD 845 or even the 835 running lets say emulation?

The Exynos is left behind by quite some way.

Samsung giving a sub par processor and GPU to a huge region and giving the states the 845 is a kick in the teeth, i personally wouldn't buy a Samsung device but this is a difficult pill to swallow if you've parted with the best part of a grand for a phone.

Anonymous, 28 Mar 2018Anandtech did a great write-up on the differences. The Exyn... moreExactly!

The Exynos 9810 is the faster device when talking max performance. It really is a chart topper. Just like a heavy-car with a great top speed. However, it requires more electricity/less battery life (ie/ less efficient). But in day-to-day use the QSD 845 is faster in terms of responsiveness. In terms of analogy, it would be like a light-car with great acceleration.

However, the QSD 845 has major problems. It is very unoptimised for memory latency, which holds back its single-threaded performance, especially in the crucial floating point aspects. The chip is much more powerful, so it barely scrapes a tie with the old QSD 820/835 in these very important test. And typically shows a 15-20% performance gain... but its clocked 17% higher... very disappointing.

Overall, the QSD 845 is displaying an extra ~10% performance boost, while saving a ~5% on battery life. Nothing like the +35% boost we were expecting.

I expect we will see a QSD 850 later this year, a new-brother to the QSD 845. Just like we saw for the QSD 800/801 and QSD 820/821. I expect they will fix the memory issues, which should free up an extra ~10% performance, which would be what we were expecting all along to a total +20% performance and +5% battery life over the old QSD 835.

If you'd read Anandtech's evaluation you'd have expected this. Plus the Exynos variant is a real regression in battery compared to last year's S8.

But I'm sure the internet myth of "exynos is better" will keep coasting along for a while anyway - a few artificial benchmarks that have little to do with real use will serve their purpose.

you can also run a 3D game in PPSSPP
or a few games in DOSBOX.
or if you got a large SD card. try running ONE SCENE from FF15.

AnonD-748079, 28 Mar 2018I dont get it... so the 1000+ advantage on the single core ... moreNot exactly... Let me explain in racing cars example
Let's say the Exynos 9810 is a racing car... it has an awesome 410 km/h (255 Mph) top speed. but it takes the car to reach 100 Km/H( 0-62 MPH) 4.1 seconds. the speed is amazing. but it takes time.
Meanwhile... Let's say the Snapdragon 845 is a McLaren MP4 C12. it has an acceleration rate of 2.8seconds but max speed is just 330 km/h (205 MPH)
So while the first car is OBVIOUSLY faster... it takes time to build speed.
while the second car accelerates MUCH faster, but capped lower.
Same with the X9810 and S845.
To preserve power. the X9810 builds it's frequency slow but steady. but due to that build... the power it delivers is constant and more powerful than the "bursty" S845. that has it fast. but not very powerful.

The most important things do not get update and more useful extras are replaced by needless things. Battery life is the most important thing for a portable device. Not having a removable battery should be a deal breaker for anyone above average intelligence. Also Glass back? When did technology became a jewel? When I hear someone say "Metal gives a more premium feel" I just feel the need to kick them across the mouth. But reality is that 90% of consumers are way bellow average intelligence and like what they are told to like no matter how useless it is.

This is not how a speed test should be done. A real speed / CPU test is this:

                                        - run a 3D game with PPSSPP emulator
                                        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epQPuSqvon0

                                        - run DIII4A (unofficial Doom 3 port)
                                        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJeXp1Pzwvs

                                        - run DosBox (desktop Windows and PC games)

These are the most CPU demanding tasks on the world that anyone can do on a phone. These tasks require the best raw and single core CPU performance.
