Weekly poll: is the Huawei P20 Pro the flagship you wanted?

01 April 2018
The rumors didn't disappoint - there's a 40MP phone camera on the market after years of absence. But is it all good?

Yes of cos, I want this phone.. Beautiful and full of feature, especially the main camera which is superb.. Battery is big enough and Super Charge tech is amazing, Kirin 970 still very fast.. For the price it worth to me..

40mp processing is poor, usable also only in sunny conditions. 10mp one, colors, AI, stabilization, tele are great though. Then again, front design is hard for eyes, notch on top, bezel on bottom. Considering there is someone who wants better performance than 1020 in full res and bad lightning conditions(point&shoot with .jpeg), this might be poor performance after years.

Akinaro, 01 Apr 2018nope, nothing special, even camera cant help it. And I dont... moreIf you hide the notch, you will actually get more screen real estate than similarly sized Mate 10 Pro since all the notifications and stats are displayed next to the notch. The notch is kept hidden even in games/full screen mode as well, and you will end up getting Galaxy S9-like design with a front mounted fingerprint scanner sans curved display. I don't find the notch annoying if I don't have to see it.

ithehappy, 01 Apr 2018A 40 mp camera, still isn't the best. And not stock android... moreIt IS the most versatile phone camera in the market right now, and the photo quality in low-light is really just so far ahead of competition... And when Pixel 3 and Note 9 will arrive, Mate 20 will be announced and widen the gap in image quality even further.
To be fair, though, they urgently need to work on image stabilization during 4K recording. Shaky 4K footage in 2018 is simply not acceptable. They've done some excellent job with stabilization in FHD, I believe they can do the same for higher resolution as well.

nope, nothing special, even camera cant help it. And I dont talk only about annoying notch, that is so useful there that in landscape mod and media apps, they need to put black bar there just to hide it... so no usefulness of that notch at all.

I would rather have Mate RS without fancy materials and without Porsche logo that was put there just for marketing.

Notch... I have said too much.
And the RS is insanely priced. 1700€. 2000USD. 2700CAD. Do you know how many chocolate you can buy with that? More seriously, that's enough to get a top-of-the-line gaming PC, or a fully maxed-out laptop. Or a decent laptop with a top-of-the-line smartphone, which I think is a much better investment.

Oh, headphone jack. Just to rub it in. SD slot. Copying Apple's worst decisions.

Huawei should have included memory extension. No 3.5 mm headphone slot is still acceptable. But please remove the notch from subsequent model

No, not even remotely. The Kirin 970 is not a future-proof SoC like the SnapDragon 845. Two or three major updates in, the P20 is going to slow down significantly. Gaming performance (GPU intensive titles) on the Kirin 970 is already less than desirable, although I'll concede that this does not affect most users - not everyone will be playing Asphalt 9 Legends and the likes.

But even when considering apps performance, it is not up there with the best Exynos or the best Snapdragon, which means limited shelf life. Huawei should have fitted this with a better SoC, even their own, possibly one more significant iteration of the 970 (975 / 980?), but the 970 doesn't cut it if one would purchase this phone with a 3 year life-span.

I was so looking forward to this phone I held off getting a S9+ then Huawei dropped the ball.
No headphone jack I was willing to allow them on this though I'd prefer to have it.
However the no memory card killed it.
Also no OIS on the main camera

A 40 mp camera, still isn't the best. And not stock android, so yeah best device indeed.

If only camera, Nope.. coz we know what yr of 2019 & be prepared for yr 2020..
