MdN8, 03 Apr 2018Interesting concept, but it's not "more" screen estate, you... moreTo make it better, those who will use this kind of look can just use the secondary screen on the top for displaying incoming notifications that will likely distract the user while doing something. For example, when playing or the main screen is off, notifications can be shown there instead of blocking the top portion of the screen, while notifications can be had on the main screen when not doing anything. After the user is playing or doing something or the display turned on, the notification that was shown on the secondary screen while playing or doing something or when the phone was off will then be shown in the notification toggle of the main screen so that the notification will not be missed by the user.
When at home screen, it can show all toggles like flashlight, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, Data, etc., or app shortcuts, or just a custom name, same way LG has utilized the secondary screen on the LG V10/V20.
Battery percentage can still be shown in the main screen, and be shown in the secondary screen when the main screen is turned off or when doing something (like an Always-On Display, again like on LG's V10/V20).
We have lots of creative ideas for utilizing notch. We only have to come up with various ways of making full use of what we do.
P.S.: In the concept I have shown here (https://imgur.com/a/kZgfW), I recommend OLEDs or microLEDs only as IPS LCDs will suffer with this concept (microLEDs will work best, but we'll have to wait for the technology to come for smartphones).
P.P.S.: The top and bottom screen cutouts are supposed to be in black, as well as the bezels, just to avoid ruining the whole concept's design.

So, LG have adopted the ThinQ name behind huh. I really hope their LG G7 ThinQ can yield a much better result in photos when comparing to the normal version, because previously when comparing the LG V30 to their slightly updated LG V30 ThinQ, it have only a slight difference in photo quality even if the LG V30 ThinQ have AI

Sometimes you don't get to see battery percentage like on iPhone X, sometimes you just have enough space for 2-3 more notifications and you could miss something important.

You know, notch is just like 18:9 ratio; people used to hate it at first, then it'll start settling down, and people will start to stop whining about it. Heck, even appreciate it, after it shows its worth and usefulness, that is.
Notch is actually a great solution for more screen estate. But the way I want it is different. Instead of on the center, I want them split on two sides, and not just on the top but also on the bottom so that it reduces the "ugliness" as the symmetrical look makes up for it.
With notches on the button, the software keys can be placed in the middle cutout screen, so the main screen isn't wasted by software keys.

I wish when LG creates a flagship, let it be a flagship for about 6 months before releasing a better version.

Oh c'mon LG! Loose the notch! It's ugly.
I'd settle for a standard 16:9 screen (notchless)with the same phone dimensions. (Also bring back removable battery)
Hate that if I only need to replace battery I have to take my phone to LG care or avoid my varrenty. ( not to mention they sometimes keep the phone in for days)

This boot loop thing in the comments. From what I understand, the boot loop was an issue years ago, and has not been an issue for several generations, am I right? If I am, can we stop with the comments on it? Not because it was no a valid critique of the G4/G5, but because it is pointless. If it is still an issue, ie with the G6, V30 etc, then please, continue to rag on them.

The design is an iPhone X and Samsung S9+ mixed clone. LG gave up designing their own phones. They just copy the competition and hope it will increase their sales. LG don't get / understand why their phones were unsuccessful and gave LG very bad reputation: boot loop, screen retention, fragile camera glass (shattergate) and LG screwed up their users (these issues weren't covered under warranty, users had to pay for the fix of these issues, which wasn't even a permantent fix, just temporary because the new/replacement components also have the bootloop, screen retention and fragile camera glass issues). And the most pathetic is that multiple generations of LG flagships have these problems from year to year (especially screen retention). They ruined the desgin: G5 and newer phones had worse design than G4 and V10.
These are the real reasons why LG have low sales and failing to understand.

How is it this hard to get it right? Stock (or near stock) Android with an understated design and top specs. Man, I miss my Nexus 5. I think the soft plastic back is the best, it's got grip, you can have wireless charging and you don't even have to bother getting a cover, it will look like new even after 2 years. But sure, go with glass or metal because Apple does it and those "tech reviewers" on Youtube think that's the norm. A tall Nexus 5 with updated specs (including camera, screen and battery) would be out of this world. And in case you were wondering, everybody hates that stupid, useless notch.

The notch is unlikely to bother your average Joe consumer. I'm happy as long as they adopt Huawei style solutions to hiding it, and most manufacturers will. I'm more bothered about the fondness for glass in everything. Let's see some polycarbonates, or some ceramics, or some woods, some rubber even. Naming is secondary, everyone will refer to this as the G7.

LG.. its good to copy successful companies. But Do not copy BLINDLY.
Notch.
No sd slots.
No headphone jack.
No removable cover.
No ONE will BUY.

Your flagship is used to be different, and sometime the first one to implement something, and about to be used everywhere later. But why do you now the one who copy other? Get rid of that notch if you still got that huge chin.

Lg please innovate more, this phone is just a copy of chinese androids but more expensive without any redeeming specs.
