As usual, htc will over price it and then wonder why it doesnt sell.
Htc make decent quality devices,at least at the top end,but they are not a prestige brand, but they keep priceing themselves as if folk should expect a top premium device, which their just not..
Htc dont have much time left, they need a new big seller, like the hd2 was and still is,even though its ten years old !
Look on ebay etc at how many hd2's are still selling, that should tell htc something..

      Perhaps they release two models, like Sony. 5.5" 18:9 is around 4.7"- 4.8" 16:9. Now that the Sony XZ2 Compact is "less compact" who knows. A U12 5.5" 18:9 for 699 euros ($813) and a U12+ 5.99" 18:9 for 799 euros ($984).

No headphone jack and only 12mp camera? I am aware that megapixels alone do not make a camera better, but having tested a few 12 and 16mp "pro" cameras on phones I can tell you that a 12mp won't even come close to a cheap pocket point and shoot camera's resolution. I'm sure this phone will do fine for sharing pictures on Facebook of you rib-eye and purple slaw sandwich with sweet potato fries or Grande mocha carmel machiato with extra sprinkles, but don't expect to print an 11x14s of them.

We all were fine when smartphone was just 4.7” and etc.
Seriously, not all people prefer a big phone.
I mean, even if it comes with 2 version, dont call the smaller one as a joke.

Anonymous, 09 Apr 2018 Is it just me or does the U12 + look like a U11 + ?There is no problem if a htc device looks similar to another htc device. But, there is a problem if a sony device looks like an htc device.

They're not going all in if they leave out the headphone jack. In a year where OEMs are notched up and ditching headphone jacks, this was a chance for HTC to steal some of the market share back from Samsung and others with every feature and a better Android experience. That lack of a headphone jack is still gonna turn off many customers from purchasing this.

They best shove in a massive battery so we can comfortably use that display for the whole day. At least 4000mah but even that might not be enough judging by the poor battery life rating for the u11+. Shame that BT5.0 hasn't been confirmed. It would do wonders if HTC could preload the Google Pixel 2 apk or implement it into their stock app. Its not even a case of their camera being bad or anything but its hard to deny just how amazing the Pixel 2 camera and the S9+ physical aperture change.

5.5 inch screen is a pleasant surprise. With such strong specs and being relatively compact in size it can be the phone many people wanted for a long time and maybe can pull HTC out of their oblivion. And no freaking notch, that's the most important part. Looking forward for more specs and reveal.

Could be a good phone with 5.5 inch screen and 2:1 ratio. However I'm sure it won't have 3.5 mm jack which is absolutely deal breaker for me.

Marko, 09 Apr 2018Screen is to small for an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. If it's near 6", then it's no different to others.
This has a small screen size for those people who have tiny hands or basically prefer smaller footprint devices.
                                      More options = Better
It's not like HTC isn't allowed to do something more uniquely good or something, unless you hate HTC, and I can't help with that.
At best, I appreciate HTC's desire (no pun) to give attention to those who really want small devices.
Now we may eventually get a competitor to Sony's compact lineup.
