Weekly poll: LG G7 ThinQ, hot or not?

06 May 2018
The LG G7 is late to the party, but did the company put together a compelling package that was worth the wait? Or is it just late?

Anonymous, 07 May 2018LCD is better than (AM)OLED. And no, OLED is not more power... moreYes, LCD is better durability and lifespan wise.

OLED and AMOLED are more power-efficient when it comes to certain tasks such as displaying blacks because the pixels are turned off when displaying black, unlike LCD which still has the backlight turned on regardless of whether displaying black or white. Which is why many recommend using black wallpapers for OLED/AMOLED displays to save power.

brandstifter, 07 May 2018I've been using G6 since October. Well, actually I dumped i... more6 hours screen on time is better than most flagships... My Samsung s8 struggles with 4-5 hours screen on time with tweaks

The quad dac is immense with high impedance headphones

The g6 also cost quite a bit less than other flagships and released

Buy a phone for what it does when sold not what it might do with updates and you won't be disappointed

You bought a phone that didn't support unlocked bootloaders... You should of checked this before... Lg offer developer section and services on their website.... Many devices they now sell like the lgv30 can be unlocked but you should check this before you buy if its an important factor

I'd happily use the g6 with 6 hours screen on time and quad dac with wide angle camera over the s9 and it would save me about 400 pounds to lol

Voted "Not", because all new phones (including all brands) since LG V20 are worse than V20. LG has chosen the wrong direction since the G6 (non-removable battery, glass body, no IR blaster ...).

Fact is this phone will not sell well. Its features and looks differs very little from other clones.. and yet priced high.

Lg always comes with new ideas. Hide notch feature where other company will copy cat lol.

Kristo Radion, 07 May 2018this phone is too big. now G and V series have the same si... moreI use Zenfone 5 which is 6.2 inch, but I wish it could be 6.4 inch cause 6.2 inch for a notched phone is not big. I also wish companies could continue to make 16:9 not 19:9 phone.
I prefer the screen wider not taller, which makes it more comfortable when watching...
By the way, lots of people are complaining having the notch-phobia, I could tell them: after using the Zenfone 5, you would never feel so. The screen is beautiful and you may get used to the notched screen soon. So, don't be afraid of notched phones. Look at those Ipx users, they are happy...

now G and V series have the same size. so why need to create those identical series?
I prefer the G series to stay in 5.0-5.5 inch (2 by 1), it will be an awesome compact phone!

Imo. in 2018 we should have this when it regards storage:
Low end: 32 minimum (BYE BYE 16 and 8 GB!!! PLEASE!)
Midrange 64 (we have it right now yay!)
                            Flagship: 128/256/512.

Apple is smart. 2 options. One small n one plus size. Some have small hands n some have big hands. Best of both world. Sammy is smart. They copy apple strategies. S9 n s9plus.

The LG G7 delivers quite a package but there are downsides:

                                    *Design is polarizing (Love/Hate choice)
*Battery is smaller which means it will drain faster
*Still using an LCD panel (uses more power than your typical OLED sceen)
*Price is too high considering you could get better phone for the same or less w/ other brands (ex. Samsung, Huawei etc.)

If you're one of those people are looking to what I highlighted, might as well get the V30 as it almost have the same stuff w/ the dac, dual cameras and the bigger battery and design is a bonus. Also you can get it cheaper if you know where to look when buying.

But hey, if you want the LG G7 go ahead and buy it as it has a lot going for it especially that max brightness and the boombox sound.

The only advantage of LG is the wide angle camera. I wish more manufacturers would use such cameras, while telephoto or B&W are mostly gimmicks the wide angle allows for some stunning photos.
Unfortunately, everything else was bad. The phone is big and unwieldy. The screen quality is nice, but I'd rather trade it for decent battery life. It barely managed 6 hours SOT with half of that being in battery saving mode, and even for that I'd rather have to thank Greenify. Oh, and the DAC drives the already poor battery life further down, so I never use it.
It is still on Nougat, there is no bootloader unlock available so I can't use some community firmware, and the latest security update is dated October. I didn't expect a major manufacturer to abandon its flagship in 2017.
So no, it's not the notch that makes me think G7 isn't hot. It's the absent software support and predictably poor battery life (the display is even bigger, the battery is smaller).
