iOS is worst update slow down phone all the time and kill battery life.
Worst is if you dont update they annoy you with pop-up all the time until you do the update.
Even worst is if you dont update your app slowly start to have issue and even stop working.
Try a cleaner android OEM instead.

For others carrier you are wrong ( they all have the option to do like Essential and skip the carrier )
As for the others OEM you talk about well lets see.
Essential has 1 model but also a MUCH smaller team.
One plus same as essential less models but much smaller team.
LG also has a smaller team than samsung for software on mobile phone ( see mobile phone expense from LG versus samsung.. )
So amount of models usually also mean a proportional team of dev and software engineer.

I have several Samsung devices in my home. Latest one is S8. But also I have S7 Edge, which I didn't upgrade yet to 8.0. I was planning to go for S9 or wait for Note 9 but I think I should try iOS.
I have Note 3, Note 4 and Note 5. They are all perfect at the beginning but as time goes, no upates performance decrese and alot of other monor issues caused by ageing.
I have been Samsung loyal customer since Galaxy S1. But it's time to try iOS. I never owned any Apple device apart from iPods.

Sorry but Samsung ( at least in Canada ) is the worst of the android world for performance following update.
Samsung phone get slower a lots faster than LG , HTC , Sony and essential just to name a few.

Samsung are terrible for releasing phones with an OS thats just on its way out knowing full well your gonna be needing to upday in the not too distant future. This is a poor way to sell new devices.
After saying that i updated my S7 to 8.0 and have had no issues infact id go as far as to say my battery seems to last abit longer since the update.

i mean this is utter bullshit. i spend $700 on a phone and cant even get a damn update??

I believe problem is Google updates. It's too often. Why do we need update every year if it's mostly design changes? Ok, now Google trying to integrate AI in system (I don't need it anyway, but it's just me) and it will change a lot. But every year new version of OS? Just for the manufactures to work in mistakes later? They could just release minor update and that's it. Every two years new version and would be much better

[deleted post]Marshmellow was also more drain. Lolipop s7 was best. They want to drain battery more with each update to make you change your phone soon in future or battery.

I'm not defending Samsung or bashing them. But Consider this. The Pixel and Pixel XL were all identical hardware. Google wrote the software around the hardware giving them another advantage. No carrier bloatware, no testing and validation from carriers. Huge advantage rolling out updates. Apple is even better at this model. Essential has ONE model phone to worry about. OnePlus has a handful of phones using a very simplified hardware setup. LG has a handful of phones actually getting updates (if it's not a flagship forget about anything serious). Nokia is also using a very simplified hardware platform and not letting carriers touch anything. Samsung sold more phone models than total phones sold by HTC and Sony (so it seems).
Then you consider Samsung's self created problem with just the regular old S7. One unlocked version with their own chip, one with Qualcom's. Plus all the carrier locked variants... we're at how many phones for JUST the S7? Double all that up with the S7 Edge, Note FE variants, and all the lower end phones of the same generation. How many total models and variants are we talking about from 2016 alone?
The only other manufacturer who could even come close to Samsung's update problem is Huawei. So many small variations even of the same model phone for various markets.
Seriously I'm a huge supporter of consumer options, but it might be time for Samsung and Huawei to slow it down just a touch with new models. It's making them prime targets for people bashing them over slow software updates.
