You can't add details later. You can recover some details in shadows and highlights with processing, but that's just ordinary processing, nothing fancy and "AI" in that.
And from what i saw, the "AI" just boosts the saturation, no matter what scene is recognized. So, i wouldn't call that "AI", but, hey, if you buy that marketing stuff, who am i to object.

Geric.770, 20 May 2018Welp, buy a Huawei phone. It's still iOS inspired, but it's... more& you get worse phone (Huawei) with same problematic software but for a much higher price. To heal we even see bad updates that are problematic & other hardware/software problems from each & every OEM on every platform (Apple, Samsung, Google). Buying an popular Xiaomi phone with Snapdragon SoC at least gives you an ability to ditch the firmware in favour & with flavour of costume ROM of your choice. MIUI is falling apart and Xiaomi is particularly bad at improving kernel infrastructure but there will always be a people like my self that will push it & make experience much more stellar.

Winston, 20 May 2018Why, what's so special in that "AI camera"?Improving the details of a captured photo. It's like the Huawei's P20 Pro thingy. It's disappointing that only the Redmi 5 Pro gets Oreo.

It's still iOS inspired, but it's more closer to stock Android than Xiaomi's, Oppo's, Vivo's, and other Chinese phones. It is more flexible because you can use Google Assistant more than Xiaomi's, since that company doesn't support on Google a lot.

I bought a Mi Mix 2 with very confidence in Xiaomi. But after 6 month of use I felt I was fouled: great hardware very very poor software. They cannot use the hardware at full potential. They promised very quick update but they grown too much they can handle. It's like Samsung. I don't understand why they make worse camera software.
I won't buy anymore Xiaomi and I highly not recomend Xiaomi.

Geric.770, 20 May 2018AI camera for a budget segment. Wow. Xiaomi nailed it again. Why, what's so special in that "AI camera"?

This is Xiaomi's main phone now in the Redmi series, and they're going to completely abandon my Redmi 5 Plus since it wasn't even considered an upgrade at all.

I'm definitely sure that I will never get Oreo update, not even MIUI 10. This April 1 2018 security update will be its last update.
And I'm saying all of these because my phone doesn't even get any attention from Xiaomi at all.
They once mentioned Oreo update for the Redmi Note 5 Pro, but not the Redmi 5 and 5 Plus, indicating that we picked the worst choice.

AI camera for a budget segment.
                        Wow. Xiaomi nailed it again.
