Cmon they have sony studios and all digital recording stuff but they put bad cameras in own phones... And lets say , Xiaomi doesn't advertises at all and still have amazing progres, due to Mix , Mi flagships with up to 500$ and redmi 90+$... Also they did improve image quality so Xiaomi is on par with Sony's flagship,Motorolas one and HTC one , next step would be an LG flagship grade than Huawei and Sammy and that's it :D but it is still close to them for a reasonable price ... cmon MI 8 with 8/128 and 845 and camera beyond 90 rating on DxO mark for 420 euros... Seriously? It's insane

      Dear HTC,
      Why don't you launch U12+ at $5000...????
Who do you think would but a $900 device when equivalents are available @ cheaper price? Plus your market is also down in recent years.
HTC should launch 3-4 good phones at the same time in all price segments (remember HTC One X+, One X, One S & One V?)...
Similarly, launch phone in $200, one in $340, one in $500 & a very high end in $750.
If HTC can launch good phones (in a particular series) in these price segments (all at the same time), they can be market leader again. Launching a HTC one series again will appeal the crowd plus having options in all price segments will be enticing to consumers.

$900 dollars? I hope HTC knows that we can get a Galaxy S9 for that price. Nonetheless, I think this is going to get price slashed and suffer a similar fate to the S9

Though burn-in is main reason for lack of usage, suited just for some scenarios(like movies), not lack of colors. Also the price. So its sort of not finished future tech, but its still improvement over lcd and having new tech in phones is a must.

Maybe they're just testing the webpage. On another note, just because a notch is nowhere to be found, what gives them the right to demand such a high price? Bezels ain't that razor-thin slim either. Who the hell are they? Right, classic HTC

Also thats probably what samsung got in mind when releasing such screens, repair or buy new :) .
Still that feeling with zero light on black is addictive, even more if in dark environment.
Considering Chinese brands, even though they mostly live of copying, or maybe even thx to that, they still try to bring something original, and with the bigger brand the less copying(though some wouldn't agree with notch and all). Their popularity is probably due to adopting same way as apple - aggressive ads/commercials(p20pro one is so awesome that I would buy right away, if not for knowing tech behind, its definitely better than samsung ad, at least for me), also their building and plans for brick-and-mortar stores(at least here in eu).
Totally different approach than brands like Sony, trying to win, not just to stay.

Shanti Dope, 22 May 2018"so thats why top products are OLEDs?" You mean smartphone... moreWell said, Monsieur!
OLEDs have more sympathetic problems than IPS LCDs because it uses carbon elements on each pixel, which will decay the longer the device is used.
Don't worry, they will be impressed what a microLED can do that other displays can't do!

Geric.770, 22 May 2018microLED is really good, and it is currently used by Apple ... moreDon't worry 'cause we'll get them on smartphones one day :)
The introduction to TVs is the first step to get the technology on smartphones.

You mean smartphones and TVs ONLY, right??

Why do photographers prefer to use IPS LCDs to view their images from their cameras?
With large screen OLED panels already available to consumers a long time ago, why do cinemas still use IPS LCDs?
Why are gaming monitors IPS LCDs instead of OLEDs?

Top products, you probably mean like Lamborghini cars, which has a screen below its air conditioner.
Guess what? The display is IPS LCD!

There are some things better on OLED, but it's ridiculous of you to say that IPS LCD has nothing better against it.
If you think OLED is already the future, why did Apple only switched to it last year when they could've had it already around the iPhone 4 era?

Like I've said, I don't like to argue about this thing if I can just pick microLED over these two any day and get a display quality that surely no other else can even match.

Raky, 22 May 2018OEM's must find a way to go out of Qualcomm claws...it is t... moreSadly, many software developers prioritize to optimize their apps on Qualcomm chipsets first since they are scarce in the mobile world.
We'll have to wait until someone like MediaTek or Intel to gain OEM demand before we get fully rid of Qualcomm.
Even then, it will be a hard task since SnapDragon chips have one, if not, of the best GPUs for mobile, in which only Apple's GPUs can beat them.

EnthusiastK, 22 May 2018To be honest, after using a super amoled device for a year ... moreThe problems of old OLEDs are still present to current best OLED panels of today.
They got better year by year, but hasn't really escaped and got rid of their issues.
Even so, Samsung doesn't actually have the best OLED tech at all. Availability wise, it is the best, but the best OLED comes from JDI in Japan, which is built on the collaboration of 3 Japanese tech giant companies; Sharp, Sony, and Fujitsu.
Any of the 3 can have that panel be used anytime soon and put every other OLEDs to shame, but they prefer to improve microLED instead, which is just out of this world in pure quality alone
We'll get to the point there of microLEDs on smartphones, but today, I only use IPS LCDs as I don't like the thought of my screen having problems a few months after using it.
Great, that you like OLED, but I still can't stand its horrible PWM flickering effect, which really disturbs my eyes when using it at low brightness. I'm afraid to develop a disease because of that.
So while OLED is a superior tech based on specs, it has more issues than LCDs and is actually more dangerous to humans.
Also with the rise of gaming smartphones, a high refresh rate display is required, and so far, 90Hz is the highest one that I've seen an OLED to achieve, whereas IPS LCDs can easily pass 120Hz.

OEM's must find a way to go out of Qualcomm claws...it is terrible how they ruined phone market with their overpriced SoC's.
Same goes for the Samsung's OLED.
Now all flagships with their parts costs just too much.

vrvly, 22 May 2018...so thats why top products are OLEDs? As they are most cl... moreActually top-end uses OLED bcs it's well known that OLED is more expensive so they can justify pricetag of 1000$... Yes OLED have some pros like really deep black, and saving battery on black, and it can be calibrated a bit by user... But, also it have a cons, and if you know anything about phones itself , not just RAM,CPU,ROM and OS, you need to know wich technology they use on ROM memory, RAM memory (lot of midrangers still ged LPDDR3 instead of LPDDR4 and dont perform the same even if they have same amounth of RAM)...Also than we came to displays, OLED is more expensive with some Vivid feel to it,Always on display... But it has BURN-IN, so it's easyer to broke but more expensive to fix... Also only SONY (wich i'm not fan of) uses true 4K resolution on LCD's, Thanks to Vividnes of OLED on max brightnes it uses more battery... And also that blacks look great but it can hurt the image or video you looking... in order to turn off the pixels it crashes shadows and details overall if it's dark... I think that can be fixed by software but who am i? till users stay happy with it there is no reasons for any company to put an effort in inovations... Idk did you notice but in past 2 years all inovations came from chinese brands... (except 3D face recognition by apple)... Bezelless screen started by Xiaomi involved by Sharp in 2014, dual cam madnes started by Huawei involved by LG,HTC started a stereo speaker madness, Vivo Under-display fingerprint sensors, 1+ fast charging madness, Huawei AI ... So Samsung,Apple,Sony,LG would keep the things going till costumers are statisfyed... If there wasn't chinese brands smartphone market would be even more boring than today...Big companies have their costumers and they play safe till some smaller brands trying to get some attention and yeah they got it, Xiaomi,Huawei and 1+ grow so fast year by year... So it is only way to make giants to compete and if they fall now they will be down for so long, just like HTC,Motorola,Nokia did... and there is hardly comeback to glory...(actually Nokia suprises me on a good way but it is hard to push competitors again, so can they? )

Sure, IPS panels have a more natural look, but I prefer how amoled display images (blacks and brighter colors). the "natural" color you are talking about is insignificant since even doing a side by side comparison of G S8 and iPhone 7, I still prefer the galaxy. Until MicroLeds can be manufactured in large scale, the best screen for me now is an OLED. Most likely, the issues you are referring to are for the old versions of OLED panels.
