Xperias with Motion Eye™ camera can take 3D pictures using ONE camera. I think we just have to improve upon it.

Lenovo Phab 2 Pro had augmented reality cameras back in late 2016. Apple got the memo kinda late.

There are 3 ways where cameras in phone might be going, 1 to take on DSLR, 2 add sensor for pro work purposes, 3 to bring some new way of taking memories.
Live photo, portrait mode are examples. Wouldn't expect it to be just for work environment, as even thermo camera can be used also for fun. Will be awesome.

Predictive memorys, 29 May 2018What is the 3D sensor feature? Capture a 3D memorys? Same as with back camera, there are multiple ways to use it. Advanced recognition of objects, AR enhancements, 3D photos/videos - even if for VR headsets now, its something you would want to look at few years in the future. With some new iVR headset or without, surely it can be used for some fun or could be also for professional work - to do something similar to whats done with windows mixed reality.
Though probably not with super-wide fov, like google's VR180.
But quite funny thing if they use 3 cameras, 3D 4K 60/120fps, but still one microphone. Its like they couldn't afford more. Hopefully they will do also something about that 1/2.8'' sensor.
With that kind of camera arrangement it makes one also wonder whats the ideal number of cameras in a phone - rgb+w+tele+3D+superwide+thermo, will soon feel like those they use in AvP.
