Nobody serious about smartphone photography should ever trust DxOMark camera ratings and rankings. They have vague, undisclosed weighted rating systems that are not third-party verifiable and they have clear conflict of interest as they not only test and rate phones, but also allow sponsorship by phone manufacturers.

They said good thing about Zenfone 5 camera as well, and now we all know that camera dont perform that well in real life as it expected to be.

I take those ratings with a pitch of salt.
But if we learned one thing is that you don't need to pay a fortune to get a one of the greater smartphones and that alone is priceless.

Shanti Dope, 31 May 2018In short, those LG, OnePlus, and Sony didn't pay DxOMark en... moreSony XZ2's customers have reported that the camera is not as good as expected for its price.
DxOMark probably receive money for its reviews. But that doesn't imply that the review has to be published. Why OP 6 doesn't have one and OP 5 yes? Because the improvement is negligible or barely perceptible? If you pay for a review but the result is not as good as you expected and is going to put your phone below your competitors like now Mi 8 and at relative far distance, the first thing that you do is prohibit DoXMark to publish the review. In the end you are the one who has paid and who orders and who decides what is done with the review.

Those guys that gave the 808Pureview an abysmal score have lost my credibility ages ago.
While it was clear that back then that 808PV in Pureview-mode (8/5/3MP-downsampled mode) bested everything else on the market with regards to still photography. Sure, NOW we have phones with e.g. better light metering. My current phone even has 3 metering modes (like any normal camera) including spot metering to improve under/over-exposure. But that is 4 or 5 years later.

Shanti Dope, 31 May 2018In short, those LG, OnePlus, and Sony didn't pay DxOMark en... moreX Performance was #3 before protocol changed.
88 for pics and 88 for video.
Behind Pixel 89 and U11 90.
Then Z5 and XZ with 87.
Also Dxo used to take shots from same locations in Paris. So we could all compare pics.
Now they just compare stupid bokeh.
Proper bokeh needs at least 100mm, phones use 52mm and ppl praise. They cant even blur whole background.
Also compare optical zoom against digital is not fair. Those phones still have crap digital zoom for main camera, so results would be as poor as from single cam phones.

AnonD-704307, 31 May 2018Sonny had great hardware but shit software, a few years bac... moreApparently, in their presentation a few weeks back, they showed the decline of their sales and progress, and admitted that they haven't moved on as fast as others did.
So I wouldn't say that they are kind of selfish, but they have failed to cope up with the times.
They could easily be number one smartphone brand in the world if they choose to do so, just like what they did back in the Z2 and Z3 days. If that success actually continued and Sony didn't stop to progress, I could certainly say that they would make Apple and Samsung loose sales and profit.
The main reason that they're not yet falling down completely is the fact that they still have the ability to create wonderful products that can easily go on top in this day.
They need to cope up and move as fast as the others, better if faster.
With that in mind, I hope they finally realize how everything is done and things would turn around for them, because I really wanted them to succeed into what they're doing.
Learn from and correct their mistakes then keep on improving and innovating. Then market their products better and provide better aftersales service, with great availability in many regions of the world, and they could easily go back on top again.

No idea how it is now, but who cares, Sony is washed out, those old stubborn japanese folk only think about the japanese market and think the rest of the world is wrong and they are always correct.

You can go check sample and comparison photos on the site, I dont really have the eye to see which one is 1% better than the other, the whole arguing over who's camera is a few % better is absolutely absurd, even mid range phones take good photos these days.

Anonymous, 31 May 2018Many devices take months to be reviewed.
A8 is availabl... moreIn short, those LG, OnePlus, and Sony didn't pay DxOMark enough to give them a score of 90, let alone 100 and beyond.
Crazy how it's actually Sony who always has the most advanced camera systems, and most of their camera features being implemented by other OEMs a year later, but they're always the one being dismissed by DxOMark.
I mean sure they didn't exactly have the best camera in the past, but the XZ2 series this year are seriously one of the best smartphone cameras available, especially the Premium with insane low light capabilities.
With how good the XZ2's camera is, it would be an absolutely biased thing for it to score lower than 100 points. Like I don't see any reason for it to not deserve that overall score.
Try the GSMArena Comparison Tool Chart and there you'll see that the XZ2 even beats the S9+, Pixel 2 XL, P20 Pro, iPhone X, and pretty much all other flagships in low light.

How can it beat the 9+ if "The main drawbacks of the device when it comes to still images is the loss of detail even in broad daylight and minor inconsistencies with the autofocus, white balance and depth detection in bokeh mode. The most prominent one, though, is color fringing"
