We'll waiting for MediaTek to fully make use of the A75/A55 cores as well as DynamiQ technology. Perhaps the reawakening of Helio X series?

      Like what I actually said below, performance wouldn't even drop, definitely not now with our modern day processors that could handle most of the demanding tasks with ease. And they can do the Sony technique where the high resolution only comes in when there's going to be a content to be displayed, then switch back to 1080p for casual usage.
      Or what Samsung is doing, where you have the option to change the screen resolution to as low as 720p if you absolutely need power and not care at all for resolution.
      We already established a smart way of coping up our current generation technology with significantly more advanced one, so why don't we do it again and again until we can finally cope up with them??

        Spending bit by bit until that technology gets developed and become successful. In this way, progress would be a little slower, but still better than almost no progress at all like we do today.
        I do think we're starting to move forward again, and I really do hope they won't stop this rate.

        Speaking of spending, Samsung and Apple are definitely one of the most profitable brands in the mobile world as of now. Don't tell me that Samsung actually spent about 75% of their profit into a single development, such as their graphene batteries. And what is Apple doing with their profit gained from their ridiculously-priced products that costs 3x more than they actually do?? Oh right, they invest them for their chipsets and OS, and nothing left for the others.

          False advertising. Compare it on the same nm implementation and at the same clock speed.
          The real performance improvement is maybe 5-10%, until proven otherwise.

What do you think they do, just pull the new technology out of their arses? Technology also has limitations and they need to create hype to get profit. Believe me, I mirror your opinion, but it isn't easy to be in this market.

              In real life, it jus a little improvement. Nowadays mid range phone can do almost everything, we need something new not like AI things, do we really need AI? Most AI things are playing in camera.

                That would be cool to know, but I doubt it.
                And if they indeed just bring up their own tech after one decides to release theirs, why didn't they bring 4K mobile screens after the Xperia Z5 Premium was released??

                OEMs need not to be stubborn. They can do everything that they can think, but they're the one who's stopping themselves from doing so.
                If we continued the great technological progression from 2014, I think we would get 1nm budget phone processors at this point. If it's way too much, then maybe at this point, there are 5nm chipsets around the world already.

                  8K i think wold work better with TV's above 65 inch, bellow that 4K is enough and waste of time.

                  Also, what you end up buying a 10.1 or 14.1 inch tablet with 4K screen? even if they have enough battery to run that!!

                  OK, im good the SoC can go up to 8K or 16K or more but no need to use it at max., like the ISP goes up 50MP Camera, but 16/20MP is enough.

                  GPU can delivery 2000Mhz but we only need half, and ARM should limit it...

                  I always listen: more MHz more the heat produced, more battery drain...

I know AMD was able to do this soon but then again, they say that their Ryzen processors seemed to be classified according to AMD years ago as a SoC.

Apple is also rumored to be doing something similar and merge macOS and iOS into one OS that will run on ARM as well as x86 (Desktop) CPUs. There definitely is not need for 8k on phones, that's just dumb... But there is a need for ARM processors that can handle 8K.

                            I've just read the technical pages, and so far I'm impressed.

                            Overall, the Cortex A76 isn't as good as the Apple A10, so it won't be as good as the A11-Bionic and the soon to release A12. However, that's just on IPC at max performance pertaining to benchmarks.

                            In more practical and day-to-day tasks the new series looks to compete well against the A11-Bionic and perhaps win in some fronts. And that's mighty impressive when you think about a next-generation Exynos, Kirin, or Snapdragon because they will be around HALF the size of the Apple chips. So they will cost LESS than half the price to manufacture. However, there are some areas where the Samsung Mongoose M3 cores are superior...at least on-paper, I'm sure in time they will prove to be better due to refinements and lithography advantage.

                            On top of this, the new Bifrost/Mali G76 gpu looks decent as well. Still playing catch up to the Adreno GPU's, but a healthy boost in-deed. I sincerely hope we see:
                            A) 14nm + 2.5GHz Solo-A76 + 2.0GHz Hepta-A55 CPU + 500MHz G76MP4
                            B) 10nm + 2.5GHz Dual-A76 + 2.0GHz Hexa-A55 CPU + 600MHz G76MP8
                            C) 7nm + 3.0GHz Quad-A76 + 2.0GHz Quad-A55 CPU + 800MHz G76MP12

                            SoC A would cost ~US$10 each for devices like Xiaomi A1/Nokia 3 ($100-$200) etc etc.
                            SoC B would cost ~US$15 each for devices like Xiaomi Note3/Nokia 7 Plus ($200-$350).
                            SoC C would cost ~US$30 each for devices like Xiaomi Mi8/OnePlus 6 (>$500) etc etc.

                              Still one day battery life :)))

                                    8K for what?! i know things need to evolute but is no need to 8K to a phone, this will push storage, SoC and battery almost to the limit...

                                    There's no need to 8K or even 4K displays in smartphones, i think 2K+ is enough and since the difference between 2K and 4K is not that much, i dont think people will use microscopes embuted in their eyes to see the pixels so...

                                    Push the technology ahead is good, but we need better SoC with less power hungry, better technology batterys - the later never came, i see all good new technologies with batterys with a thick of a paper and i wonder if they do the same for smartphones in a few years then we could archive 7000/8000 mAh with a 6/7mm phone and thats is my primary priority this days.

                                    SD845 is good, now dream a SD845 with a phone 7mm thick and a 8000mAh battery and a 2K+ screen, they will last you a week or more, you will get almost 20 hours or more of SoT. Thats my dream right now but no one move on on the batterys game, its stuck.

                                    Meh, hope 2025 we have a 4nm processors with 3.6+ Ghz and a newer battery called micro-lithium or something with superb capacity with the same size of the actual batterys.

                                    Until then, i will keep my dream.

                                      Mobile cameras with 16MP resolution can shoot 8K videos.
                                      128GB storage would be the minimum for 8K videos, but we absolutely need a SD Card slot to install up to 500GB SD Card, and we'll be good for the next 2 to 3 years.

                                      The thing that we need to catch up with is display resolution.
                                      Are we going to stay in 1080p and 2K forever?? I get the fact that the pixels are barely noticeable, but we can never see the pure quality of 8K videos without the perfect hardware for it.
                                      Then there goes the battery life, but it has been proven that 4K HDR screen doesn't hit the battery life by a large margin.
                                      Why don't we do the Sony technique, where it will only utilize full 4K HDR when it will be displaying a content, then the rest will work in 1080p in order to save battery. Heck, even Samsung has the option to switch screen resolutions up to as low as 720p+.
                                      Are we afraid to actually try something new??
                                      Man, I miss those days when manufacturers actually do their best and push their limits and go beyond the boundaries in order to achieve something.
                                      Doesn't matter if it failed. The importance is that they tried and learned a thing or two from that failure, which will then turn into success after multiple tries and pure dedication to invent something great.

                                      Dear OEMs, please tell me how to have a guaranteed succees at first try.
