Just integrate 3.5mm in to the phone and increase thickness for more battery.

A very good strategy.
Fisrst drop the headphone jack from phone and then sell it for 100usd to convince their customers that they fulfill the needs of customers.
great essential but people are not fool they will not buy any other phone from your company

First remove it then sell it as an accessory. Marvelous. So according to them it was one step forward and now one paid step back. Essentially stupid.

"so you can listen to music while still being able to charge your phone"... OMG this is something new LOL...
That's what happens when you buy a expensive featureless smartphone & then you buy the "essential" features every one alone...

facepalm..., 08 Jun 2018Hold on...
You sold a jackless phone.
Customer thinks a... moreSome people still care for audio quality. Since it's going to feature an ESS Sabre DAC, it will probably be among the best sounding phones out there, with only LG's Quad DAC equipped phones being better (V20, V30, V35, G7 etc...).
I'm pretty sure if Essential convinces even 10% of those who bought the PH-1 to buy this accessory, they'll consider it a win.

facepalm..., 08 Jun 2018Hold on... You sold a jackless phone. Customer thinks a... morePoint is that you pay 150~200$ so that you can have the bad, old, deprecated 3.5 mm jack back (as the phone maker's marketing it while everywhere else in industry it's a standard must have peace of equipment). But it's new shiny and titanium covered, it uses separate DAC, AMP and cetera. While phone already has an DAC, AMP & female integrated port (on phone side) costs around 2$.

Wow what an amazing technology. With this you can use your headphones on the phone it's not something we could befoo.....
Seriously I'm not buying any new phone anymore. Each new model lacks of something important, I'm gonna buy either a Nokia 9 or s9plus or not 9 and that's it no smartphone at least for 5 years

Hold on...
You sold a jackless phone.
Customer thinks about it, and decides to buy it, knowing full well it does not have a jack.
Customers survive months without jacks.
You decide to sell this HD expansion..
Other then its a ripoff.. Whats the point?
