Tang0N0vember, 01 Jul 2018Sony smartphones have no personality - gigantic slabs with ... moreCalling Sony's phones devices with no personality is funny, almost literally every other manufacturer, be it Chinese, Korean or whatever, more or less uses the same exact design - rounded edges, slim bezels, that ugly ahh notch... should I go on? You practically can't make out a Xiaomi from a Huawei, Lenovo, Oppo/Vivo or Asus unless you look at its back, and you can practically only identify each device because of the maker's brand logo.
The smartphone... "community" -so to speak, is funny. People always complain about stagnant device design across the board, but when one manufacturer steps it up with a unique design (a manufacturer known to have excellent design languages throughout the years, from the PlayStations, to the Walkmans, the Vaios, the Bravias no less) instead of applauding them for being creative, regardless of personal opinion of like or dislike, they get caught up in this pseudo-battle for no bezels. What will a no-front-bezel phone achieve? I totally get having a slimmer, sleeker phone. I totally get having stereo speakers, or an AMOLED screen instead of an LCD. Sony has always been making sharp, elegant designs, the Loop Surface language was a great example of that, and always liked ignoring trends.
It's funny how nobody complains about the bezels on the iPhone 8. Or many of the lower-end Galaxies in the A and J series. Learn to be more openminded on design please, thank you.

I live in South Africa and for the last 14 years I have only been using Sony Xperia flagship devices. I am currently using an XZ1. I love Sony products! But what the hell?!
First they stopped selling Sony Bravia TV's (officially) in South Africa and now this... Ugh!
I am really very upset about this!
Now I will have to start using Nokia phones again from next year. Nothing against Nokia, their phones are truly excellent, but I prefer Sony's phones.

If Sony focuses on the super flagships like XZ2 Premium (2018) or the Z Ultra (2013) they'll be very successful in the Middle East.

Nokia should have done that instead of selling to MS. However its in the past. Sony should go the Nokia route, outsource manufacturing to Foxconn and let the Xperia brand compete with the likes of Nokia, Huawei and Moto.
BTW whatever happened to Xperia R. They should be competing with Moto G series phones.

Well, i personaly like Sony mobile phones. But there is allways some annoying issues with their production. 90% of todays smartphones used Sony Exmor sensors for cameras, and allways competition achieves better results with photoshooting than Sony. Why Sony refusing to add a OIS ??? Why they didn't make camera software better ??? How Huawei, Samsung, Lg, Htc can do it, but Sony can't ??? When they start to do more realistic pricing ??? They are not alone on the market and not so unique anymore. Good old times have over. Just a pitty...

I just wish they downsize for the better and come out more competitive rather than going dead to attempt a resurgence. One of the best OEMs has to struggle because of various factors including own slow pace.

Sony electronics executives want to retire, that all. They have more than enough money for retire and enjoy life. Young generation over there are not interested with cellphone industry, just enjoy anime.

Feal bad for sony, especially that are being replaced by copycats, cheap manufacure and fishy companies like xiaomi, oppo and whatever other crapp on the market. People this days have no sense of reallity. The cheapper, the better. But nobody llooks at that 3 mounts life expectation from this highly uninspired copyslabs.

Im hoping they pull out of Africa and middle East so they stop releasing hundreds of low and mid range phones. Can finally concentrate on flagships which are way behind the competition ( Then XZ1 compact was magical and unique compact flagship. Then they killed it with the XZ2 Compact making it bigger and unnecessary 1080p+ screen so terrible battery life).

They should have closed down since 5 years ago here in Africa cos we do not need a company like Sony Mobile. They thought Africa is still living in the dark ages and for that will manufacture all sorts of stupid phones and push them to Africa and expect us to buy them on a high price tag just because they are branded SONY. We are wiser now. Africans no longer buy a product based on the BRAND, country of origin or FAME. What we need is a well SPACED phones, STRONGLY built at a competitive price be it a Chinese, American, Japanese, Taiwanese, French, Korean or from any other country it do not matter the company or country it was manufactured from. Sony did'nt succeed in Africa because of being insensitive to their customer's demands like big battery capacity, good and energy efficient chipsets, good service after sales and most especially, a very good competitive price tags on their mobile phones which sony have failed woefully to achieve.

., 01 Jul 2018The process up to the purchase of Sony phones is very nice,... moreAre you talking about Xiaomi????
I had exactly same problems, with not one but 3 Xiaomi devices....I had to fix them on my cost, and no help from their support (more help can you find on forums, but only if it is SW).
But, Xiaomi devices is usually cheaper, so after 2-3 months it is expected to throw them away and buy another one.

Not bad to save something up, but if it will help them move forward? I think just a little, and they need a lot more than that.
