HMD is hiring a team to expand presence of Nokia phones in the US

26 July 2018
Only a few Nokia phones are available in the US and none of the higher-end models. HMD will work with carriers and retailers to change that.

If Nokia (regardless of what nation controls the company) wants to market their phones in the US, the way they did in the past, they need to differentiate themselves from the pack (I'm talking European styled industrial design and hardware choices). Nokia can try and grab the "nostalgia" users in their 40's or older, or make a play that Nokia was the pre-iPhone dominator that made cool functional cellphones before anyone cared about smartphones, and say "we were first and best" and "now we're back to reclaim the throne". However, no Nokia of recent date seems to be besting the flagships of Apple, Samsung, or anyone else right now. So I don't know what segment they're trying to tap in to. I don't see this working without a real marketing strategy or incredibly awesome device, flagship or budget. They need to be different, but they're not, as far as I can tell. Do something cool and Nokia-ish first, then we'll listen.

HMD is Finnish, their official site literally says so (remember, them lying here is grounds for a lawsuit somewhere). And there is legal basis for being Finnish, backed by paperwork that actually exists.

They were designed exclusively to be sold as Nokia phones and nothing else. And if you ever get to use one, you will notice how well made they are, just like how everyone thinks about old Nokia phones.

What makes you even say that they are Chinese!?!? The money? The money comes from everywhere. Some people are so ignorant in the comments it's just so funny. If you think HMD are Chinese because they are made in China, then every thing manufactured in the world according to you is Chinese. Anyways, HMD are not Chinese.

About phones made in China: 90% are so, is not the point here. Samsung, LG, Xiaomi, Huawei and etc is made in china, if not is made in P.R.C wich is the same thing (some people think is not but, ok! LOL).

HMD is chinese so, if people read the title of this article "HMD is hiring a team to expand presence of Nokia phones in the US" is clear isnt the real Nokia, is HMD. So if HMD is hiring people to promote Nokia brand, is not the Finnish company and yes HMD.

Hope people get the idea of what we are talking about here, since are a lot of confusion because people didnt understand this.

"real" Nokia phones = until 2014/2015.
"rebranded chinese phones by HMD with Nokia name" = 2016 until today (and until they sell, when it struggles again may we say goodbye to Nokia for sure!)

AnonD-241270, 27 Jul 2018dont trust in articles you found in wikipedia or elsewere. ... moreProducts being made in China is just fine. It all depends on the factory, licensing and quality control. Many high class quality companies the world over have manufacturing done their. It does not make them Chinese. To date, Nokia phones have been fantastic quality. Looking forward to the next installment.

Nokia, the one who "make" the phones is not Nokia, is HMD a chinese company who have the rights and pay fees to use Nokia name. PERIOD.

The same way as Blackberry dont make the phones, instead is TCL who make them and even you probably think is BB, but is not.

Nokia phones is holded by a chinese company (HMD) and Finnish Nokia is not the same since they dont have nothing to do with make smartphones/phones whatsoever.

The Finnish Nokia just are doing some 5G Network things and not other things...

so, yes, the Nokia smartphones is just a chinese cr/*\p....and will be banned from USA as fast as they enter.

In addition, Nokia along with Huawei, Ericcson and ZTE have patents on 5G that Trump will try to avoid. They don't want foreign equipment of any kind in its 5G networks. As with Huawei, they will not open the door to their mobile phones through operators that could lead to contracts on other types of equipment. At the time ... they will veto it.

Equally the relations with Europe have been distanced and proof of this are the different tariffs that have been approved lately. There is a lot of mistrust and I do not think it will improve in a long time and less with Trump at the front.
