At least they are providing the API for devs to improve their games if they so choose.

I don't like Hauwei because they left my Honor 7 device without any updates. I never bought another device from them since.
I don't see any problem with Hauwei telling the world about their GPU update, provided they don't make outright lies like Lenovo.

Did you read the article? Only if you're a gamer of specific compatible games. Huawei's going to have to throw a lot of incentives in for devs to do the optimization.
The whole nature of this is that Huawei wants to pretend that its GPUs are more powerful than they actually are, so this will have to stay closed source meaning nobody else's SoC could take advantage, or at least this is what Huawei's aiming for, provided its generic Malis aren't too easy to crack for others to do a port.
But then this means that devs would need to do optimizations specifically for Huawei, and Huawei Kirin devices only. So with their current market share, unless Huawei's users consume games as actively as iOS users, Huawei is going to need to throw in additional incentive to motivate devs.

So their turbo is pretty much a telling to the software... moreExactly, again this is a lie (like P20's fake 960fps and other Huawei lies) and is NOTHING like its hyped up advertisements. If you don't play the specific titles optimized to Huawei's requirements, this thing's just air.
We've yet to see if this is just Vulkan, but it'll be even worse if it's not, for the bad compatibility.
When Sony tried set proprietary standards for everything, well we know where that got them.

So their turbo is pretty much a telling to the software developers to "please optimize your game to our SOC, so we can sell it as a turbo boost".
10/10 very cost effective, much turbo
While it make some difference on supported apps, it ain't solve the general issues of mobile GPU-s. It still doesn't allow heavy graphics games to be developed, as it only cache heavily used parts, however a realistic 3d graphic is pretty much changing dynamically, so this ain't really going to do much here.

Seems that the same chip has different characteristics, depending if it located in Asia or the rest of the world (/irony off).
Also Huawei is the only company which sells very expensive flagships of $500+ or even $1000, while only providing one major upgrade for them. Additional to that they also lockdown their bootloaders so that you can't remove their spyware.
Avoid like the plague...

I saw on forums that unsupported games like honkai impact 3 also benefitted from the tech. Maybe you can take a look later.

In fact we ... moreYes, but my comment was more towards that it looks like what Nvidia and AMD do when they update their (adrenaline/geforce) drivers: some titles (not all) get an small-to-decent improvement on some areas but at the end of the day those drivers updates (and this one) are not something magical like Huawei propaganda tried to make us believe.

Huawei sucks. late in FW updates, only some newer phones are only updated, and this GPU turbo sucks, too.
I had a P9 Plus, but this phone sucks due to lack of proper updates, no oreo etc...
No more huawei, the worst manufacturer in the world. better to buy iphone or oneplus.
