I would go for the back camera. I have had selfie camera or front facing camera since they first came out almost. I have not taken 1 selfie so far. What Chip wrote that a photo with yourself in it is more rewarding I can agree to in some ways. My biggest interest in life is traveling and have been to 75 countries so far and I take photos where ever I go but I have never felt that I need to be on those photos. To have myself in front of the Pyramids, Angkor Wat or on the Great Wall have never touched my mind. I go there and take photos not because I want to show others that I have been there so no need to be on the photo, I take photos to remember how it looked like when i get much older.

You don't even need to poll to know the result. And I don't need to have myself in front of every landmark. Just snapping the moment I was there is enough for keepsake.

I prefer thin bezels on my smartphone to that unly notches, you get more with just a little sacrifice in display ratio. Just like in Pixel 2XL you can have stereo speakers and good camera though its bezels are tad thick than OP 5t of s9+. You don't get much out of those notched displays either, a bit more not so usable display which shows status bar.
Just think, if you have a notch on top of the phone what else you can get apart from status bar on that part of the display? You don't play video going though the notch or a game in that case. While watching or playing the notch hides inost smartphones which leaves a smaller black empty space that doesn't show status or notification while you're watching or playing. You have to swipe to see the status which is what you do with non-notched displays as well. May be you get the status bar not covering the content still it is not worth adding the notch on any smartphone.

FinnishInquisition, 30 Jul 2018I wish more companies ditched the front-facing camera and w... moreTrue, but what about the video calling and other streaming experience. Won't it be downgraded with this small rear display, rather than using the whole interface with many features and multitasking ability one just have to use in very little display and features.

Rear camera is more important, for photography purpose. Selfie is good, but it's not that we can shoot nature and all things around us using selfie ( such selfies are weird). Why do we always need ourselves to be in frame?
Front cam is required occasionally for video calls and selfies ( as and when required). Yet rear cams have to be better.

Moreover, I consider professional cameras to be more appropriate in case someone needs to take professional pics.

I wish more companies ditched the front-facing camera and went with the small rear-display instead, like on the Meizu Pro 7.

The rear primary camera is a lot better anyway, and this way we could finally have true bezelless displays and get rid of notches.

I'm not really buying the ego argument. If you think about what people use their rear cameras for, a lot of that is probably taking pictures of themselves and their friends having fun, or to "document" parts of their lives. In other words, those pictures are also being used to satisfy the ego in a similar way. Unless you're a professional photographer, most pictures you take probably will ultimately be for fun and personal satisfaction, whether they're selfies or not; given this, I'd rather have the option of the front-facing camera instead of having only a rear one as people seem to be wanting now. More features are usually better than less, unless there's a very compelling reason for less.

Well, let the companies deliver the best of the best to offer us their cameras. I'm actually neutral too on this type of debate. :|

Camcorder have a flipable and rotatable display that people use to record basic things, review or personal vlog. No one ever complain about its moving parts or usage as selfie video. Why is smartphone treated so differently. This just cross my mind suddenly.

                          None.

This is not even a debate. Rear-mounted cameras are far, far important than front-mounted cameras. I don't need to shoot every photo with my mug in it.

Not sure if people misinterpreting this debate or what. The question is not about choosing only rear or front camera over the other. Both camera stays. The question is about which camera do you think should be the main one. Which is more important. Stop assuming choosing the rear cam means no front camera or choosing the front cam means no rear camera. That is just weird assumption.

Rear obviously. Only those "selfie" obsessed instagram/fakebook/twitter types would put a front over a rear camera.

Although, the argument for selfie cam is really good, I have to go with a better rear cam, obviously. The point I don't agree with is with the rear cam argument that says that slider/sliding front cam is not cool; to me, it's cool that it enables to hide the front cam and that there's no camera pointing at you at all times whenever you're interacting with your device, and ofcourse it helps achieving a more bezel-free display.
