As an Apple Watch owner, I can clearly say: no
It‘s a gadget, it‘s not to replace the phone, but rather to complement it. I mean, you would also never say „Bluetooth speakers are dead“ just because they are not a big market and not everyone has one. I also don‘t believe in „the next big thing“, the smartphone was also just a logical ecvolution of the phone, and the phone was something everyone carried anyways and has been a big market years before the smartphone came to dominate it.

Just like with tablet markets, there's no tablet market there's iPad market same goes for smartwatches.

The brands should give a smartwatch when you buy a phone that is worth more than 500 euros ...

I'm going to buy a Kronaby Apex tomorrow - probably gonna be my best smartwatch to date - or hybrid watch as it is.. best of both worlds imo.

I'd rather buy a tablet.
But $2000 on an iPad is more than I can pay for.

If Google would learn from apple how to make good OS then smartwatch market would be much different. Now all you can see basically on streets are apple watch or Fitbit.

I work in retail on tills,and I've only seen one use a smart watch to pay for goods and that was yesterday,seemed weird to say the least,rest was scan card,so it's not hit off where I live,even that's been a pain in the bum cus it's not been working properly,!

They are zombies in fact, not dead, nor alive.
I am a watch aficionado and I do not consider them watches. Why would someone wear an electronic device that tries to do the same things as our smartphones? They can not replace them. Someone could argue that the same goes for the "real" watches, that they don't do anything that a smartphone can't do. A watch is a reflection of our character, they can be well crafted instruments that run without the constant need to recharge it.
The only real use I can find for them is as sports watches and I actually use one as such, but that's all I use it for. It's much better than the traditional sports watches, but that's all about it.

Definitely not.
There are too many potential to use smart watches.
- Use as remote release for DSLRs from distant places.
- TV remote control
- A good camera inside the gadget can remove camera in smartphones for good.
Right now for those who must stay in almost crowded or silent all the time, smartwatches are good assistants for messaging and calls.
They are most portable Music players, Health trackers, etc.
Price is the reason many people omit them.
In 7nm and smaller road, there are opportunity for smartwatches to have smartphone grade specs alongside better battery life.

The biggest problem with smart watches is there measly battery life. Smart bands are better for now.

In my office alone, 7/10 of my colleague is using smartwatches. People will not buy them every year. I'm using Gear S3 frontier for more than a year. I use it everyday and I'm not changing it anytime soon. I change my phone more often than my watch.

Nope, smartwatches may not be extremely popular, but they are definitely not dead.
You know what seems dead? HTC, unfortunately.....
