Anonymous, 12 Aug 2018Deffo not! In my workplace (UK) most people wear smart watc... moreYou probably work in a specific place where fashion counts, impressing someone, competition for technical innovations. Your workplace is neither the whole of the UK nor the world;) Smartwatch is a new Netbook!

No, smartwatches are not dead, but currently there is a disconnection between what customers expect and what manufacturers offer. That's why the sales are slow. Sales will pick up when a smartwatch will not have any drawbacks compared to a regular watch. Most importantly, a smartwatch needs to have three things: long battery life, an always-on screen, and a price very similar to a regular watch. $350-400 smartwatches will never sell when their perceived quality and fashion-ability are equal to a $100 watch.

What a weird poll. Now they are on life support, overpriced gadgets that do little and have to be frequently recharged. Almost no progress seen. And they are strangely marketed for sport or health uses only.

But it does not mean they have no future...

Cheap smart bands does more than enough....it is much smarter to buy one fitness tracker, than to spend 10 times more money on one "real" smartwatch .
And money is not an object, I do wear watches...but not that funny ones...

ZloiYuri, 12 Aug 2018Exactly. iWatches sells very well. Just search "Apple outso... moreYeah 300 USD watches selling more than 3000 USD ones, yaay let's celebrate! Or not... You do realise someone buying a Patek Philippe or even rado won't even bother looking at Apple watch? Those are meant for generations to come not something to be scrapped in junkyard in 3 years tops...

They're not dead actually. It may be not popular right now but I think it might be useful in the future.

              Nnnnnnnnnope.

Most Filipinos here love buying smartwatches, particularly Samsung S3s and Gear Sports.

              What about HTC?

Mi Band 2 does everything I need and its battery lasts 10-20 days.
I'm not paying 20 times more cash for a smart watch with several functions I don't need and whose battery won't last a couple days.

The best smartwatch by far is the Apple watch i own one and i love it.

Poor advertising, too pricy, not very smart(in capturing activity automatically), small endurance(most of cool looking ones).
Same as with tablets, the best ones stay.

[deleted post]USA is where Apple stuff has the cheapest prices.
I dont know why they complain. I wish I could pay the same for electronics here.

Price of X 256GB was enough to buy S8 and XZ Premium together

I think they came out prematurely. Until smartwatches have 7 days battery life or better, they're useless. That battery technology should have been invented first.

I see more people wearing Apple Watch than any other watch classic or smart

If samsung allows other companies to use tizen this category might just start breathing as WearOS is sh*t and there is also lack of OEMs there are only two major manufacturers Apple and Samsung then there is problem of battery life a smartwatch usually lasts no more than two days while imo should last atleast a week smartbands like Mi band are better as they provide basic functions of smartwatches and provide great battery life imo 10nm chips are more needed on smartwatches than smartphones and low end 10nm SoC might solve the battery issues

Anonymous, 12 Aug 20182000? A powerful 2018 iPad costs 350. and what has a tablet... moreI mean I'd rather spend money on a tablet than smartwatch.

The iPAD Pro 12.9" 512GB with cpu A10X is equivalent to $2382 here. Apple website.

The IDEA of a smartwatch is good, but the technology is not there (yet).

Currently they either have very short stamina and/or are huge pill boxes.

So not "dead" rather they are at he state of "premature birth", just like the first 10Kg moveable phones....
