The new leak confirms most of what we know and adds to the story.

Whackcar, 15 Aug 2018Well, When SD 855 ships, wouldn't Kirin 980 be somewhat old... moreNot as old as the SD845 when Kirin 980 ships, obviously.

Brazen Beef, 15 Aug 2018WHEN Kirin 980 ships, SD845 will be old.Well, When SD 855 ships, wouldn't Kirin 980 be somewhat old too... according to your logic, that is...

Brazen Beef, 15 Aug 2018WHEN Kirin 980 ships, SD845 will be old.If s845 is old then s845 will be around the corner

Whackcar, 14 Aug 2018Yeah but what does that have to do with SD 845 not being old? WHEN Kirin 980 ships, SD845 will be old.

                  AnonD-558092, 14 Aug 2018G72 MP24 at 700MHz is too hot. A reduction of 3nm does not ... morehow do u know that its too hot? malig71 mp20, running 546mhz, is hotter than mali g72 mp18 @572mhz,both on 10nm. while malig71mp20 runs almost 6 watts, malig72mp18 runs around 4 watts.

                  mali g72 mp12 742 mhz yield around 6 watts.

since using 7nm, even of throttle to around 500mhz to achieve 4watts nominal targets with mp24, it still can sustain better performance, better than malig71 mp20 and malig72 mp18 with 10nm build.

and if it(malig72 mp24) runs at the same clock as malig72 mp12 as in kirin 970, it shud be more or less the same consumption, around 6 to 7 watts, but with big boost in performance.

this is without additional cooling, as huawei shows in honor note 10, and data on how much power draw is based on benchmark suite(benchmark suits will max out the gpu, but not all games will runs like that cuz it will drains the batttery like crazy, even in andreno 630).

however, i must say, that i prefer they use malig76 mp 16, which easily match malig72 mp32 cuz its double up its execution lanes per engine.

but all info about malig72 mp24 in kirin 980 is just rumours at the moment, so, since u mentioned about throttle and bad heat, present ur facts also.

btw, malig72 mp12 is really good in vulkan, and its the same height as andreno 630, only in opengles, or single threading that it lost. mp24 will have the same as 630 in opengles, but will be better than andreno 630 in vulkan.

plus, low level software change like gpu turbo, can make mali g72 mp12 to close the gap with andreno 630 in realtime gaming session, i dont really know what it can be with mp24.

if kirin 980 using malig76 mp16 and malig72mp24, even sd855 is out, the gap is smaller, compare when andreno 630 vs mali g72 mp12 cuz many forget that mali g72 mp12, couple with a73 big cores.

the gpu cant render data without cpu sending the info to gpu(texture n polygon) b4 gpu rasterise it to draw the image, the faster the cpu sending the info, the better it will be.

let's wait and see what will kirin 980 offer... for sure nice performance but not as some people are expecting... in my opinion, it will be slightly disappointment

Adreno has an edge. But that's it. You sheep are trying to make it out as if it's a world of difference and it simply isn't

If you saying that Kirin 980 will have not power hungry cpu with all that info, so you an idiot. This cpu will be very powerful and power hungry. Just look at clock speeds. And you telling me that g72 suddenly will not throttle? Considering it will have higher clocked cores and more? Dude don't embarrass yourself anymore. It is obvious that g72mp24 will not challenge any new gpu in sd 855 or new exynos chipset cause it is all tech!!

If g72mp18 already throttle he... moreStop making assumptions, we don't know how much 7nm process will contribute to lower the heat emission. Also newer CPU cores mean that CPU is now more power efficient and can run cooler, allowing GPU to run at higher clock speed before the temperature of the whole SoC reaches limit and throttling occurs. Heck we don't even know all those rumours around this new chip are true, so let Anandtech do their analysis once it comes out and see how it will perform.

But it's still very obsolete 16nm design while Adreno will be @ 7nm process and usually slam dunk inferior Mali chipsets whatever kind it is. In both speed and efficiency. Sadly.

If g72mp18 already throttle heavy and it is on 10nano 9810, it will be obvious that increasing clockspeed will not help with throttling in it? Genius
