Huawei uses DSLR camera to capture 'selfie' featured in nova 3 video ad [Updated]

That DSLR is there only because it's recording the commercial. It's not used to take that Selfie. Nobody is that stupid to do that - come on with all your bullshit about China cause almost all of your devices are China (related) made...it's difficult for you to accept that there are others besides Apple and Samsung, but that's the truth....

Things that all angry kids need to know:
1. All companies ""distort"" reality(read: lie) when they advertise their device so they look better.
2. Half of images taken using device where actually taken using DSLR.
3. Other half advertising images where heavily photoshoped.
4. Almost all devices in ads are just renders of devices, not actual phones.
5. All phones in ads have smaller bezels than in real life(because of point 4)
6. Most of devices have fake/buffed benchmarks scores.
Now I hope all those angry keyboard warrior-kids will chill out...

While this is embarrassing for Huawei, whether it's misrepresentation is debatable. If you want blatant misrepresentation, what about the fact that every single phone render has slimmer bezels than the actual product? Where is the outrage?

The best part of all this, the guy in the leaked photo does not even hold a phone in his hand. They cannot come out and say they were taking the video while he was holding the phone and the phone was visible on the capture.

If your buying a phone just because you saw some random video ad on that phone, well you are slow minded to begin with and deserve to be burned..because let's be serious, every company out there is doing this kind of things (no matter the industry, country, etc.).

Unless the advertisement states directly "this footage was shot using such and such camera", chances are it was shot with professional equipment using studio lights in controlled environment. Meaning, it has nothing to do with what the phone camera is capable of.

SixTymes, 21 Aug 2018No, of course not, BUT, they should be if they are depictin... moreI said this is a stupid move, that because this incident not just give impact to the product but also to the actress as well. And all the ads didnt use the picture taken from their own device, they use dslr camera, thats why we often see disclaimer read for illustration only, everyone knows it, but in this case, huawei ads was caught because the actress uploading it.

xyrotic, 21 Aug 2018Xz2 recent ads clearly written taken with xz2 . And they ha... moreSome XZ2 ads, maybe. But this one is clearly fraudulent/misleading XZ2 advertising:
https://youtu.be/zq6iOiZHXVs
It doesn't take into consideration the quality and resolution of the image seen by the human eye as well as the dynamic range capability of human vision. It would be quite easy to see stars at night with the human eye once the pupil is fully adapted (fully dilated) and easily shift one's gaze to the moon with no overexposure. Try capturing a full hd video using the XZ2 premium focusing on the stars then shifting focus towards the moon at night and see for yourself if the smartphone's ultra high ISO sensitivity can even just barely begin to approximate human perception.
As I said in my post, all smartphone manufacturers are guilty of fraudulent advertising and Sony is no exception. Smartphone manufacturers make ads that exaggerate their smartphone's photo/video capability just to justify the higher-than-dSLR prices their annually replaceable/disposable flagships sell. Smartphone buyers shouldn't buy into their 'PRO/higher than dSLR camera quality/higher than human vision' marketing gimmicks. And no, you don't need to replace your phone every year or two. If desktop PC's have 5-6 years useful service life, there's no reason why flagship phones shouldn't do the same - if only there were strict worldwide regulation against planned obsolescence.

Yeah... But thats a logical thing... No OEM will ever use the true Photos clicked from their device in the commercial ads...
Its always the High End Cameras that works for it...
But seriously... They must be red faced now... :D...

Shui8, 21 Aug 2018Nope i just pick random obvious samples...no offense, i als... moreOld Xperias ever since the original Z can take great photos like in their advertisements when you use manual mode and try to tweak it the way you want it to produce images. It's misleading, but the shots are still achieved by a smartphone.
The last false marketing they did was in the Z5's score in DxOMark, and I could tell that they have learned their lesson from that mistake already.
Their Instagram account is full of camera samples with the XZ2, in which I can say they're really taken with the phone (some with blown out highlights, some with crushed shadows, and some noise but highly detailed, just as you'd expect from the XZ2's camera; they are all great photos that are worth advertising nonethelesa).

H-1, 21 Aug 2018Imagine they don't! No one would buy their phones (I'm spea... moreNo one does that kind of marketing.
But Sony doesn't use false samples just to lure people. I look at their Instagram account and all I see about the camera advertising are photos that are truly taken with Xperia (sometimes overblown highlights, some with crushed shadows, with some noise, but are very detailed, just as you'd expect from a Xperia camera in 2018).
Trust me, they don't make bullsh*t when it comes to marketing their phones. The last one was probably the Z5's score in DxOMark, but we have now proven that that site is unreliable for smartphones, and that Sony's no longer interested into using them as part of their marketing campaign.
