You should know that Taiwan is a province of China if we talk politics and the fact is that such vendors are also in China. For parts like battery or cages, Chinese makers have even more advanced tech and good management as they can easily move factories to cities with lower living cost with aids from local government and hence can satisfy their workers and invest in good equipment.

Iphone is simply an household name like walkman or hoover was years ago. But alot of peoples mindset is that if something is expensive its quality. And here Apple are trying to source the cheapest components.
If you want a chinese phone you may as well buy a Huawei. oh no Huawei isnt an household name and there cheap so they must be crap.

Lowering prices? Apple? ARE YOU INSANE!?
There's only 1 direction prices are going with Apple and its not downwards. Apple can't even be bothered to use the best modems in their phones, whats to say these Chinese suppliers are going to be as good as what is there right now? Its shameful that even with such high profit margins Apple can't be bothered to soak up a little increase in part costs per unit.
Apple has well and truly lost the plot. Lazy and slow to update is borderline arrogant.
