Every manufacturer wants to sell its newest devices. Simple as that. And the easyest way to do this is to not update the software in their oldest phones. Remember the similar case (about 6 months ago) with HTC Desire not reciveing the latest update fo Android at that time?
Or now, SIRI not getting ported to iPhone 4?
Personally, I have a HTC HD2 (with stock WM6.5 :P) and a HTC Desire (with custom rom from xda-developers wich works like a charm) and i'm pretty happy with them...no urge to update to latest and greatest...and i'm waiting patiently for april 2012 to upgrade my HD2 with the HTC flagship at that time...

it seems like if there won't be any pressures from HTC owners, HTC won't be upgrading to ICS
but if owners will be tweeting and making noise for ICS updates, then HTC will commit
but then again, it sounds like they have no plans for ICS initially

Google promised that any phone up to 18 months old would get any Android O/S upgrade for that period, provided the hardware could handle it. My understanding was that the has been agreed with all the major hardware providers of Android devices. Thus virtually any HTC phone with suitable hardware already running Android from the last 18 months should be getting the update. The Desire HD is more than capable of running it, so I would take a very dim view if they do not provide an upgrade.

More IceCream you want chances to reach a cough are higher. I think that's HTC policy to update only some 2011 phones.

Shame that the most hated thing about Honeycomb was taken over in ice cream sandwich --> the buttons are on the screen, therefore taking up space you could otherwise use
why oh why not stick with the hardware (touch) buttons???

we all knew this would take time, its unfair for consumers who are stuck in a contract and have to wait for an exciting new OS, but this was always the problem with android.
at least we know, now in the future android devices will no longer be fragmented.
HTC sense is wicked, combine with ICS - what a great bit of kit

If the sensation xe gets it, im sold ! Has anyone compared one with the galaxy s2, I was hoping with 1.5 duel core it would be even faster ? Otherwise I might consider Droid razr or even galaxy nexus, although would miss HTC sense. (desire user)

" Despite the improvements in Ice Cream Sandwich, however, HTC is determined to not let go of their Sense UI and will be working to combine both of them, taking into account the hardware of the device."
Fair enough. But when you're a multi billion dollar Android device partner w/ the luxury of having a full on salaried R&D dept, you should get your shit together. When people non-geeks included desperately resort to rooting and custom ROMs just because of slow firmware updates and Sense UI removal, you're doing it wrong. Period.
Samsung hired Steve "Cyanogen" Kondik. Wise up and do the same. Properly get and open the bootloaders up. Stop with these crap batt modules.
