The whole phone sliding apart is going to make it feel much less premium than other devices in the hand. Others may feel solid and sturdy, this is going to feel flimsy and delicate. Even if it's not.

I love the look, but i'm really not sure about the implementation. I think the Find X solution where the top of the phone moves up might be the best.

I just remembered the Doogee Mix 4 concept, which this is pretty much exactly like. Anyone heard any news on that device?

Monoke , 02 Sep 2018Don't know about the manual slider idea. Seems like a step ... moreI guess that would vary from device to device, and we have to wait for a teardown to see how well built this is.

The most recent slider I had was the Motorola Z8, no wobbling issues what so ever. Great build quality.

The slider in Oppo find X is both weak and has to be triggerd all the time for face unlock (useless gimmick), and once again for rear camera as well. Vivo's solution for the NEX-devices with pop-up selfie camera, and only that, will se the least amount of mechanical wear. Even compared to this solution by Xiaomi, because Xiaomi include speaker there also.

I was really hoping for a vivo NEX-like pop-up selfie, but I'll wait and see until all details are known.

i dont hate it, the phone looks amazing also miui always looks hot improving the phones design. but the slide just feels like an added problem in the end.. probably for the user. still more interesting than the notch

Don't know about the manual slider idea. Seems like a step back. Those have always had wobbling issues over time. Would prefer Oppo's solution with on screen fps to reduce mechanism usage.

But if I have to choose between a notch and a slider, I would go for the notch any day unfortunately. I simply cannot see the slider surviving for a long time. But then again, those are "cheap" Chinese brands and they won't last that much anyway

                        Hmm, that's very good.

I think the Note9, V30, Mate 10 levels of bezel-less nature is more than enough. We don't need any ugly notch, complicated mechanisms or other compromises in this pursuit.

If only this will have headphone port and a memory card slot then I will get this higher end model of Xiaomi since I am still using a Redmi 5 Plus. Though I am already planning to buy an Oppo F9.

how the hell do u use a case on this thing?

To me this looks like a type of manual slider mechanism solution used on the likes of BlackBerry Torch 9800, Sony Ericsson Xperia X2, Nokia E75 & many others in the past. Personally, I think it's about time those made a comeback. Much better than notches. Good job Xiaomi!

There's nothing to adopt, only to skip the most useless workaround since headphone connector adapters for proprietary ports. Thank god we don't have to live through that again like it was 2005...

in 2008, Nokia made quite a few phones with a sliding mechanism. I have the 6500 Slide, it's still working.

So far only Chinese mobile company has been following this trend. Maybe other company like sony, samsung, apple,lg and other think of having durable product because to me this is only gimmick.
