Maybe the issue is even more widespread. Apparently the UK, is unaffected but my partner bought her iphone during the period stated and it regularly freezes to the point where it becomes almost unusable at times.

            How typical.
They release phone with proper testing in rush and hurry and after a year they offers a medical treatment when this problem is year long known.
Pathetic company with even more pathetic leaders.
Shame for apple and another nail has been smashed into the coffin.

Minor scratches does NOT impair the ability to repair the device. Major damage does.

No company is liable to pay for damage you have caused yourself. They pay for their own mistakes, and that's it.

Walter C. Dornez, 02 Sep 2018Wait really? Do current LG phones have this problem?Indeed. I tried to see if there's another Flash tool for LG except the hell-some 2014 flash tool. It seems it's the only app that can read KDZ files, which is the rom for LG phones, and there's none.

Fayth, 02 Sep 2018me buy phone after a year of it's released, yes I don't get... moreWell thats you but the most economical way to own a phone is to buy the latest iPhone, it cost only 100 bucks more and loses its value slower, so the 100 you save on last years model will cost you more. By the time an iphone 8 has dropped 200 in second hand value an iphone 7 will have dropped minimum 250, maybe nearer 300, and it takes longer to sell.
But if you want really big value drop buy a Huawei P20, or even a Galaxy S9, those are only for rich people who can afford a big drop in value. Huawei P20 owners cannot even get back half of the price after half a year, making it the most expensive flagship to won.

If you have a cracked screen, with AppleCare+ the repairs would costs $29. If your phone is out of warranty, the repair costs $149 from their authorized service providers.

                                        https://support.apple.com/iphone/repair/service/screen-replacement

And a cracked screen or severe dent isn't a "used component". It's a badly damaged component that risks breaking upon disassembly. It makes absolutely no sense for Apple to take the risk of disassembling a phone that the user has damaged, only to not be able to put it back in working order again due to the damage. That's why the phone must be in a condition where any damage to the phone won't impair the ability to disassemble and reassemble it. That obligation is entirely on the owner of the phone.

The same rule goes for any repairs to any product. You cannot hand in a product that's smashed to bits and say you want a minor component replaced, and expect the service provider to shoulder the risk of not being able to reassemble it. They'll tell you, with every right, that they can't perform the repair unless you agree to shoulder the cost of fixing the damage you have caused to your device that impairs any repairs.

And Samsung was legally required to pay back the owners of the Note 7. It wasn't a charity. And they certainly didn't pay people for damage their burning and exploding phones caused.
