But keep in mind that apple already make the devices hard to repair. in devices a few years back (mostly not apple's), you could change the logic board faster than opening a bag of potato chips.

A Faulty logic board stops you from performing while a mild crack in the screen does NOT prevent the mobile from working! It is the responsibility of the manufacturer, in this case, Apple to fix the logic board and hand over the mobile same as before. If they cannot perform a certain operation due to screen etc...they need to fix it, Customers are not expected to bear the cost, they already suffered enough in the hands of the manufacturer. Actually, they must fall at the feet of customers for not taking legal actions for fitting a FAULTY EQUIPMENT in their mobiles after parting a fortune.

Now they will refuse board replacements because of tiny scratches or dents in the iPhone body...

In other words, if you have a faulty iPhone 8, you can hand it in at any point for a free logic board replacement until September 22, 2020.

I can't really answer the question about the level of water- and dustproofing after a certified repair. But water damage isn't covered in the warranty anyway, so you should never fully trust it.

How about the IP Rating? If I am not mistaken, once the unit was opened, the IP Rating will never be the same.

logic board replacement is "probably" free.....
                    apple genius joke.

"If your iPhone 8 has any damage which impairs the ability to complete the repair, such as a cracked screen, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the service. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the additional repair."

Which sounds not only reasonable but fair. In order to access the logic board, they need to lift the glass panel. If the glass is cracked, it may very well break during the removal process. As such, they can't perform the repair on those devices unless you also negotiate a replacement of that glass.

If they didn't have that legal disclaimer, they would have to also be financially responsible for something that has nothing to do with the warranty repair. That wouldn't make any sense.

They also have nothing to do with logic board functionality. Phone manufacturers gets huge profits from replacing those screens and here they're apparently seeing a fault made by themselves as an excuse to milk their customers for some more money.

Whackcar, 01 Sep 2018So if my phone has a cracked screen, i need to to pay for f... moreThis is because they can't open the phone with a cracked screen. The phone is sealed. A cracked screen will just get shattered completely. Even if they do open it they won't be able to reseal it! Apple give replacement phones most of the time but they always check the phone inside when it comes to hardware issues! Water damage/ check physical condition of logic board etc. In my experience though they are not too fussed about tear and wear when there is a recall. You book it online and they just do the swap for you.

Apple acknowledged and is offering a fix. Sounds fair enough.

And it makes sense, because you may have got your motherboard fixed, but you get your display broken instead.

Well, at least they acknowledge the issue this time instead of just brushing off. Thank you Apple!
