Nokia 9 hands-on image leaks, shows five cameras on the back

The much anticipated true Nokia flagship seems closer to launch than ever.

basically a lot of lenses/sensors in a thin phone is the only way how to counter size limitations. But right processing and ability to take raws is another important thing.

Allan, 07 Sep 2018Surely calling others "fanboys" won't get you any closer to... moreJust stating the obvios, fanboys have a certain way of seeing something that isn't quite there.

Yes, the 808's camera is pretty bad unless doing this and doing that in manual settings and post processing in addition. Guess what? That makes it a bad camera for almost everyone who just uses their smartphone cameras for what they are point and shoot. . . So thank you for making my point :-)

BTW, it doesn't help on low light performance no matter how steady you hold it, or even on a tripod and manual settings, it't still too slow for any object that isnt' free of motion. If upgraded same way as modern phones, BSI, OIS, larger apeture and better software (audo mode) then yes, it could have been great, but it's not as it is.

This hideous phone triggers my Trypophobia

Carol, 07 Sep 2018Yup, the only problem is, you never used 808 pureview. So e... moreNice attempt of master suppression technique, but you're wrong :-)

Although I don't anymore, I've had the luxury of testing any phone I wanted how much I wanted for a period of about 10 years, ending almost two years ago - come January.

If you are content with the camera performance of 808 PV today, then I'm happy for you. Don't be upset that I'm not. Generally speaking I always go to my mirrorless anyways, but hopefully my next phone can change that, al least outdoors or indoors with lots of light.

The 808's camera was never a flawless camera. It's just that other smartphone cameras around that time was pretty crappy in general. A lot has happened since. Already in 2014 the others started to catch up on overall performanc. Note overall, not for pixel-peepers mind you and the over sharpening some swore to then still lives on with some of them.

The 808 is still pretty good as long as your taking a properly steady shot with no moving objects and manual settings. But that not what I do, and also not what I see most people around me do, unless the girls are taking selfies.

My most photographed subject the past roughly 2 years is my very-soon-to-be two year old son. He proved to even give the RX100 a lot to work for so I had to upgrade to mirrorless with very fast continous autofocus and up to f1.8 prime lens most of the time to keep up :-)

I can only hope that the upcoming Mi Mix 3 will continue to evolve over the already pretty good camera i the Mi Mix 2s, but I fear the sandwich/sliding formfactor might affect camera, due to space restriction.

Space restricion for camera is the one thing the 808 didn't have and it worked tremendously in it's favour. The same sensor upgraded to BSI and optics with stabilization and larger apeture with modern software and HW processing power would have been pretty amazing to be honest. Low-light weakness resolved, same with dynamic range, faster autofocus easliy and a auto mode that actually would have provided great images for everyone etc. I wouldn't mind that camera bump for that performance. I'm not sure if most others would, or if just smartphone manufacturers fear so.

My once-upon-a-time, 10 long years ago, Motorola Zn5 had a pretty big Kodak camera bump on top and to be honest it just improved grip. It could never slide out of my hands as the bump would get caught.

Eh, 07 Sep 2018Either all 5 is for a light-field camera Or the 5th one ... moreThey can use juat use super low lighg instead of regular sensor, with all those cameras there is no need for depth sensor and I already said optical zoom

Lightning McQueen, 07 Sep 2018 Ultra Panoramal sensor that can capture ghost in the cemet... moreWould be cool if some thing like that exsisted

Either its fake or all cameras have same aperture.

Anonymous, 06 Sep 20185th is X Ray camera. It's go through your clothes. Great ... morePerfect (insert devil smiley)

Moj, 06 Sep 2018maybe a highress (40MP) for extra detail? Then it can replace the normal sensor as there is no need for another sensor with lower resolution

[deleted post]I do.not know what do you mean, all i see is 808 performing better in most cases with way better color reproduction and way more natural then that crappy p20.

Marco M, 07 Sep 2018In a fanboy world ones perceived truth is the truth, and if... moreSurely calling others "fanboys" won't get you any closer to "the truth", provided there is One Truth (TM).

Sure, lots of blown highlights if you never venture to Creative mode and just decrease exposure to -0.7 EV.
Sure, not the best dynamic range if you have never tried recovering the shadows in post production from the JPEGs with results almost comparable to working with RAW files.
Sure, not the best autofocus out there compared to today's phones, but perfectly capable in good light, and you can set it to Hyperfocal or Infinity when going out in low light depending on the kind of photography you are going to do the most.

On the contrary, saying "bad low light" is totally false and just denotes laziness or bad faith. Shots in low light are great providing that you have steady hands and/or tinker with settings. Or maybe just take more than one just to be sure. You know, like any other phone without OIS out there. But if you manage to keep the phone steady, you get great IQ thanks to the very large (even though not BSI) sensor area.

Yet, 38 MP of pixel level goodness in decent light, good to great 8 MP shots in low light, perfect lens sharpness from corner to corner, very fast shot-to-shot time, physical camera button, lightning fast camera start, Xenon flash for when you need to freeze subjects (not that I like flash photography, either) – or to fill in back-lit scenes, and even a freaking ND filter with both manual and auto options, good battery life, unsurpassed audio quality when recording videos, and so on.

Sure, not the best camera if you don't know how to use it and don't explore its manual options. That's the only thing I can concede.

Carol, 07 Sep 2018Fair enough, but i am not talking about a form, an inplemen... moreI also like Nokia very much... I remember my first dream phone was nokia n93 with actual optical zoom... that time every thing Nokia made was a master piece, but that is long gone... Now time has changed.... every company is following each other foot step... so calling copycat is useless now... its my thought actually...

Fayth, 07 Sep 2018why don't put the flash in the middle, just for aesthetic sideFlash in the middle will blind the cameras. The flash always has to be outside the range of focus.
