iPhone started the no physical keyboard phones
iPhone 3GS started the app store
iPhone 4 started the high resolution display “retina” and metal frame glass back
iPhone 4s started the “virtual assistant” Siri
iPhone 5 started the all metal body phone
iPhone 5s started the finger print authentication
iPhone 6 and 6+ started the rounded continuous glass to frame design
iPhone 7+ started the dual cam design
iPhone X started the notch design and gesture base navigation
This things apple implemented on their iPhone somewhat started or stir the mobile phone industries. Some of this apple did not have the original idea but they improved it and others follow, like the notch, the design of the notch was followed by majority of the android OEM, the curved notch, they could have just made a circle notch or a square notch but no, they have to follow the curved notch of apple. Also like the plus moniker, mose OEM has two units with a regular size and a plus size also copying the plus moniker. The dual cam design, OEM could have just made their own design but they have to follow the protruding dual cam, at least samsung made their own design with the dual cam setup. Now with the “MAX” moniker, OEM will now also put thr MAX moniker on the phones they release

They used the same design for 4 years straight, and now for the second year in a row have literally the exact same design.
People say Chinese manufacturers don't incur expenses on design, and Apple is the one that takes the pain for creating "revolutionary" smartphone designs that others copy. When clearly this is one other area in the list of numerous areas where Apple cuts costs.

The first iPhone was a true revolution for me at least. Great device to show other manufacturers how a modern device should look and feel. Not a fan of today Apple policy though.

Point is, every device has flaws when launched, be it a 100 dollar budget phone or a 1000 dollar flagship. They are ironed out by most brands with software updates. Even the software updates may bring some issues, and this goes the same for Apple or any Android OEM.
I am so happy with Xiaomi support (I always say that), having owned a budget Redmi Note 4 since well over a year, they have been pretty good with updating the phone, considering so many models that they have, and also the RN4 being a budget phone.
Tl;dr, every device has flaws in software/hardware, including iPhones. The thing is, here you are shelling a fortune for an already compromised device. And a greedy business is quite happy with it, sitting on their trillion dollar valuation.

By name, thievery, and disbelief. But not by tech....well of course a couple things. But barely anything.
Most things were done already by others.
Even the names iPhone, iPad, and I believe even apple were taken illegally. But they didn't care. However have someone do that to them or even simply have a small resemblance and you are getting your a sued off.

err, wait! I remembered differently from news I've watched and read before. As far as I remember, Steve was really annoyed at the scratches but not scratches at the screen, but scratches at the metal back body, then he contacted Corning from someone's recommendation, and then the iPhone design using dual gorilla glass panel front and back sandwiched.

Thats why they're not Open Source. else any maufacturer would pay Apple for iOS to be installed in their device outbeating Apple's own iPhones. The same concept was with Blackberry, who had to resort to Android later.
Apple is not what it used to be couple of years ago.
Apple can only be the trend setter in this smartphone era, but doesn't suit in innovation.
