And the iPhone XR is more expensive (quite a bit more in my country) than the normal iPhones were (like iPhone 8). This is not like the iPhone 5C.

In my last 7 years, since my first smartphone (nokia lumia 710), I had 10-15 smartphones (premium, low-end, mid-range). None of them was an Iphone. Proud of myself.

iPhone is so boring for me. I've used my sister's iPhone X. It is uncomfortable phone but looks cool. Android is more fun to use and do everything you want. Just be careful from viruses. My android phone never got a virus.

Tech people who preorder tend to buy bigger screen models so this isn't surprising to see big one in high demand with preorders.
After the phones been selling sometime iPhone Xs and Xr will outsell Max because it's still too big for most.

Look at iPad mini / iPad / iPad Pros.
They stop upgrading iPad mini for years. So people will move to buy the Pros / iPads.
They stop upgrading iPhone 5C or SE for YEARS.. So people will move on to buy the latest.
When they stop upgrading the latter, they milk it HARD, HARDD until nothing is left.

i wold like the SE size of the apple phone... this phones are tu big to carry arround. Because of materials and since the are too thins they are wery slipery (why have rubber case if you can touch aluminuim and glass?) i would prefer to have thicker iphone so the camera wolud not stand out in the back and that way to have bigger batery (bateries in i phone are disaster - i use IP7)

In any case, people are preferring iPhone XS Max over XS for example. Also, XR is meant to be Apple's move into the mid range market, so its expected to drive higher sales.

If Apple sells more iPhone XR than the more expensive models, iPhone XS Max/iPhone XS, then it's the first time in Apple's history. The iPhone 5c never sold well compared to the iPhone 5. If it happens that iPhone XR will sell a lot more than the more expensive XS models, it will be an indication Apple has lost its prestige. It's downhill from there for Apple with future iPhone releases, selling lower and with majority of iPhone fans always upgrading to the cheaper version in an annual multi iphone model release.

720p iPhone XR costs very close to Note 9 512 GB which is 6.4 inches of QHD AMOLED, 8 GB RAM, stylus, curved edges, excellent dual camera system, fast charger included (excluding cash back & other offers). Only people with low comprehension can even consider XR as an alternative to XS Max!!

iPhone 5S vs iPhone 6 -> Bigger screen
iPhone 6 vs iPhone 6S -> 3d touch / AR entry phone.
iPhone 6S vs iPhone 7 -> A haptic home button. (Virtually immune to button mashing) in exchange for jack.
iPhone 7 vs iPhone 8 -> Wireless charging
iPhone X vs iPhone Xs -> Advanced FaceID
Once you see it, and accept the previous generation limitation, you will overcome buying it.
