for the first year, those A series and J series make sense, but after that... it just a big mess with added C series, ON series ... i honestly think they should stay using galaxy Alpha naming for premium compact midrange.. and for lower - midrange, introduce new naming lineup that use polycarbonate as build material with IPS screen to keep the price low without sacrificing too much on performance. .

LG Superfan, 18 Sep 2018What happened to C series? How will J and A merge they targ... moreC series is dead. Samsung has removed all mention of it from non SEA and Chinese markets. Their updates and security pages don't even acknowledge they exist.

C series was one of the best series of Samsung IMHO and each one had unique design features, but they just didn't sell well enough, so Samsung has bid it farewell.

      Do you mean Gematria?

If so, I don't think Huawei is following that scheme. The only coincidence is the jump from 10 to 20. Many companies simply jump numbers, and either attribute it to beliefs, lucky numbers, local superstitions or simple to show that their product has much more history, longevity and advancement than they do in real life.

Besides the removal of the "Ascend" moniker, it also doesn't explain the jump from 2 to 6.

And, going by your code name scheme, the series so far doesn't really make any sense.

Also, are you sure 183 corresponds to "SHC" and not "AHC" or "SQC"?

        C series?

Samsung sell low specification hardware phones for a midrange price, and high specification hardware phones for the price of a second hand car!
Apple and Samsung fool buyers to pay extra for their brand!

Kiyasuriin, 18 Sep 2018Not exactly about Note series. Indeed, up to Note 5 they ... moreWell, they explained the reason for skipping the Note 6, and it was a pretty valid one.

The first Note was released in the same year as the Galaxy S2. Hence, for all the subsequent years, it seemed as if the latest Note was one generation behind the current S flagship.

They simply fixed this issue by skipping Note 6 and advancing it to Note7 along with the S7 series. Simple.

              Anonymous, 18 Sep 2018Translation: We're rising J series' prices.But A and J are the same from now on. ;P

It kind of restricts them in naming scheme as they can't use ascending numbers. So they went with the form A3(yr) for example.
                  Same goes for J, C and O

Indeed, up to Note 5 they were very consistent however the poor Note 7 was SUPPOSED to be 6, Note 8 SHOULD BE 7, and Note 9 SHOULD be 8.

                        With the sense that
A=1, B=2..... J=10, K=20..... S=100.... Z=800. As there are 26 letters in the ABC, amd making a number like 183 would form some kind of a sequence of letters (in this case: 183= SHC)

Anonymous, 18 Sep 2018Huaweis is good as wellHuawei's naming is fine but still not as consistent, traditional as Samsung's S-series, which also has more longevity (since 2010).

Huawei first had Ascend P1 in 2012. After Ascend P2, they directly jumped to Ascend P6.
                            Whatever happened to 3, 4 and 5?

Then after the Ascend P7, they dropped the "Ascend" moniker and it went to release the P8. Another inconsistency.

After P9 and P10, there ditched the P11 and jumped directly to the P20. So yeah, Huawei's isn't exactly the best naming series.

Hopefully they abandon Exynos 7870 entirely!

The S-series and the Note-series have the best and most consistent naming traditions in all of smartphone history.

However, all other line-ups including Samsung's own midrange ones are a bit confusing.
