absurd and insane repair cost chargeable by Apple...
XS Max back panel $599 and front panel $329... that leaves $171 for the rest of the phone costing $1,099?

Kidding aside, I agree with you. Nokia 3310 was the first best selling phone in the world that's almost undestroyable. And it did so without any blahblahblah certification whatsoever.

The industry should move towards hardy and unbreakable synthetic materials like kevlar. No more paying $599 just to repair a fragile back and profit a greedy company.

I don't care. Ijust want phone with a glass sandwich, because it feels and looks the best. If you don'thave butterfingers on your hands, it'll fare better. My Xiaomi Mi5 with white glass back is all scratched up from placing it on surfaces and you can't see anything on it from a distance. Where metal back would look like crap already. The fact how much iPhones cost and how much repairs for them cost is a whole another thing...

Obviously it isn't gonna end well.. its made of glass.
It doesn't matter whether it is gorilla glass or King-Kong glass, you drop it you break it.
What's the point of doing drop test on a glass phone when we know it gonna crack.

Pixel 3 might come with mostly a metal back after seeing The Verge leak. That could be my next phone.
I hate glass backs. Don't care for wireless charging. The iPhone X/XS have a glass back for better reception but still very high with SAR. All iPhones have been that way. My Essential only has one-third to one-fourth the radiation.
