LG V40 ThinQ press image shows off the notch and the triple camera

The flagship will retain the dedicated Google Assistant button.

LG G5's wide-angle lens was a great idea back in 2016. I find it more practical than 2x optical zoom.

My problem with LG happens to be with their software and the random hardware issues. The G4 and V10 had bootloops. The G5 and V20 had image retention. My G5 has three OEM batteries and it still drains 1% every two minutes when watching a video.

I want to love LG. It's not like I didn't try. Their quality control just isn't there. I no longer trust any companies from Taiwan (ASUS, HTC, Acer) and South Korea (Samsung, LG). I miss the 1980's and 1990's when alot of our tech were made in Japan and they lasted years.

My only two choices from now on could be between the latest Pixel or an Xperia Compact. As much as I like that red OnePlus 6, it's too tall. Same with the Xiaomi Pocophone F1. I have nomore interest in using MIUI or installing ROMs to get stock.

Google or Sony from here on out. Most of the Sony products I've owned has never let me down. Only my first PS1, VAIO laptop which overheated but lasted 7 years, and a Blu-ray player which is picky with formats. Majority of my PlayStation products have been great.

PS4 slim is my favorite and most used device at home. I think I'm going Sony next. LG no longer cuts it for me. Just yesterday my new V20 battery arrived. It doesn't look like its an OEM as I got it from eBay. It lasts just as long as my old one. LG battery life is crap. No thanks.

FeederEater, 26 Sep 2018Actually, if recent rumors are true, V40 will have same sen... more1.4 pixel would be great. I hope the V50 also includes it on the wide angle camera!

Stopped reading after "... the notch and triple camera" and switched to the comments to say that i stopped reading after "... the notch and triple camera". Sorry, LG, not interested.

        With f***ing notch? No, please.

Anonymous, 26 Sep 2018Everyone copying Huawei now. Huawei the new innovator.No. Everybody copied LG. LG was the first to put dual cameras on a phone and make it a trend (LG V10 and LG G5). Get your facts before speaking shit.

Everyone copying Huawei now. Huawei the new innovator.

I'm on T-Mobile's band 4 LTE in NYC, and I bought the V30 as an upgrade to my Nexus 6P a few months ago. The manufacture date of the device was February 14, 2018. I absolutely LOVED the quad DAC paired with my Sony 100 ohm impedance headphones. I also loved the battery life I was getting. The best I achieved was 8:46 SOT with 32 hours off the charger. That was with screen resolution set to max, 25% brightness indoors, AOD enabled and location toggled on periodically at high accuracy.

It literally sipped battery. I could go 45 minutes on a full charge before it would drop to 99%; even in standby mode, it would take 90 minutes to drop a percentage. Even so, I ended up selling the V30 after only two weeks, because the signal strength on the V30 was awful. There's no excuse for me not to have full bars of reception at home, where I'm exclusively on Wi-Fi and spend most of the time in the same area as my modem. When out and about in spotty signal areas, I'd get no signal, whereas my aging Nexus 6P still gets a bar or two. The FM radio app was essentially useless, because my local stations came in all static. Also, LG's UI is ugly and needs to be refreshed. LG Smart World has crappy theme/ customization options. Compared to Samsung's theme store, Smart World sucks. I really miss the quad DAC, and I'm eyeing the V40, but I don't know whether I can trust LG at this point.

I have a theory here. In one of the articles the name of the device was with additional word "PLUS" something like "...Storm Plus", also we know that size of it will be 6,3 inches and it will have three cameras but lately we saw specs of a device with two cameras which might mean that there might be regular and PLUS version just like Samsung and Pixel have. Anyway there definitely will be a budget model of it, it is the way of LG, ust remember that there were three versions of V30 and in other article there was mentioned that there will be 11 models of V40.

Sell the unlocked model, including T Mo B66/71 support for $499 and you have a winner. Unfortunately LG thinks they can command even higher prices than Samsung. Uh, no.

Notch and dual or tri camera are the most big tumors in the mobile industry.

Triple camera and slider camera should become more common next year.

I still don't want to deal with LG and their laggy skin. It's true what many have said about LG. I've tried to be in denial. LG just isn't reliable enough.

The more I play with it, the more I want the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact. The UI is faster than Pixel 2 XL in default. Neither are in 0.5 animation yet and the Sony just feels more instantaneous.

I'll wait for the XZ3 Compact which likely gets announced by CES or MWC. Hope it follows the XZ3 design but smaller and cheaper. The XZ2C is too chubby.

                          Sony > LG

I no longer trust Taiwanese and Korean brands. I grew up on Japanese brands like Sony, Panasonic, Nintendo, Sega, Canon, and Nikon even if everything now seems to be made in China.

The quality of Korean brands just feels 2nd-rate. I no longer care what Samsung or LG puts out.

So, now only samsung and lg keep expandable storage and audio jack while others are milking customer who want more storage by forcing them buying higher storage option with exorbitantly high price gap.

Hope the camera as good as s9 or p20 pro.

LG used to make one of the best phones and their camera was always on point but they seem to be losing direction this days and worst off they are the slowest on updates. I'm still using a G5 and have been waiting for the V40 to see if it was worth the wait or move to either Samsung Note 9 or Pixel 3.
Either way October 3rd would determine if their mobile division deserves to shut down or stay in business.

Note: I still wonder why LG never listens to consumers. They should bring out what everyone is hammering about and they'll definitely get the market.... Starting with their Camera which is still 1micron pixel and their battery

This phone is shaping up to be one of the best of 2018. It has all the trending features (notch, long display), classic features (3.5mm jack, SD slot), and attractive features (triple camera, dual-front, etc). The only reason why this phone might not be a best-seller is due to LG's current reputation... but who know, maybe it might be LG's comeback phone!

dr0id, 26 Sep 2018for my point of view, rhe 3rd one is just gimmick, like ahu... moreActually, if recent rumors are true, V40 will have same sensors as Note 9 ("12MP f/1.5 unit with large 1.4µm pixels, an ultra-wide 16MP f/1.9 1.0µm snapper and a 2x telephoto 12MP f/2.4 camera with 1.0µm sized-pixels"). With larger aperture, bigger sensor and pixel size, LG will finally be competitive with other flagships. The only thing that held LG back was their use of small pixels in last few phones (G7, V30, G6), but with this boost, they will come back to the top (because, even though they had large aperture, their pictures in dark were really bad because of their small sensors and pixels). As for the wide angle camera, i dont know how good/bad it is on G6 (as it has smaller aperture), but i mainly use wide angle on my V30 cuz its pretty amazing and useful (only at night i use main camera).
