Cool i might just do that. By by google apps.

So Nokia 8 Sirocco doesn't count?

Alien , 28 Sep 2018Dude, you forget 90% or more of the SMARTphone users are ac... moreummm, unlocked bootloader is better than having admin rights. it's more like having access to your favorite linux install with the choice of supported hardware. We don't get much options for custom hardware but the custom software is where it's at and can drive hardware in the future. look at how much android has grown because of OEM skins, devs volunteering their time or sharing their personal setups and Google slowly implementing hardware API's because of new technology.

I hate to say it but we, we as in everybody, every single person needs to slow down. We are getting technology just thrown at us at a faster pace than any one person, much less a planet, can digest and handle it. And OEMs are starting to charge 4 digits for the price of a flagship. With sealed battery. I really hope the smartphone economy is done ballooning and pops soon. Everybody needs to optimize or catch up. iOS and Android need to do that. Apple is blowing out the performance per watt out of the water and Qualcomm quitely announces a 1000 chip for tablets and laptops. I'd like to see both succeed. Intel will suffer but they're rich and playing us like pharma companies are. I'm sure all these ARM cores and mobile GPUs will converge and compete. ARM cores can scale up and so can GPUs. Is Imagination Technologies still doing well? Apple was half their income. Their PowerVR GPUs are much better than Mali and possibly better than Qualcomm. I am sure some badass cluster of these at 80% throttle could make nVidia perk their ears up again. Can you imagine the laptops they could make? You could make batteries swappable by using them as docks so you get to pick the thickness of your laptop. Or hell desktop.

As a Nokia 8 fanatic myself, I'll eat my words about against unlocking bootloader and try this out. What will I do after I unlock it? What software I should download and I'd hope the majority of apps like Dungeon Link would still work.

I've been against unlocking it so it also means I'm happy that I'd let Google check me out as if I haven't done anything bad. It's not a big deal until I've been notified straight from them that I've been data manipulated which I don't have yet (I still don't know how that works).

This probably means that we will see Jolla Sailfish on Nokia 8 somewhere in the future. Almost old Nokia is back even if it is not.

Give unlocked bootloaders from day-0. If the Exynos Galaxy phones have one with a valid warranty and all the aforementioned apps work, then why unlocking should void the warranty? We need another class action in the EU like for rooting.

                    A little too late.

"Those days are long gone" ? Don't be funny, custom rom world gone nowhere, phone makers started to unlock their bootloader more without any solution left for developers or people who want total freedom in their android world.

DarthSneed, 28 Sep 2018"Those days are long gone as all Android phones nowadays ar... moreDude, you forget 90% or more of the SMARTphone users are actually dumb af. Might as well call them android sheeps because all they know is uploading selfies on fb or whatsapp and play silly games.
Also, I don't know why, but there's a huge number of people who think that by rooting a phone it automatically implies you're a bad hacker or something and you do that only for illegal activities lmao. How stupid is that??!
People are afraid of what they can't handle, just like animals.
Only a few of us dare to unlock the bootloader and play around with the os.
The author clearly has no place in talking about this subject, or he's trying on purpose to discourage curious users.
You forget that having an unlocked bootloader means you having administrator rights, which is also not in the interest of brand manufacturers or even websites like this one which is quite soft and leaves the hardcore stuff for XDA forum.
Don't get discouraged, try to open people's eyes and keep doing what you want. That's my motto.
If people choose to be dumb, it doesn't mean we have to do it too.
Nowadays they don't want you, the user, to poke around and delete a possible spying app embedded in the os (like china brands do - huawei stopped the bootloader unlocking especially because of this).
Study even more, don't give up, let's prove these low IQ people that smartphones are not just phones and we're using the SMART part of them.
                        Termux is my Bible! :)

Article does not mention vital thing as unlocking bootloader and flashing custom roms are not only for removing bloatware or increasing performance but for longevity of device. Even if you say flashing it is not necessary anymore, because Android is optimized enough and has more than you need, you can't do anything once you run out of updates and your device looses software support. This is there custom roms comes to help to revive your device and make it like new with latest Android OS installed to your device which officially does not support.

Please stop it with the misleading titles. Nokia hasn’t unlocked anything - HMD Global has.

                                    https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_pocophone_f1-9293.php

The Xiaomi Pocophone defeats any HMD Nokia's.

                                      Erhmm

"Those days are long gone as all Android phones nowadays are well-optimized, have plenty of customization, and offer most features we need in a device."

Are you being sarcastic? Or are you just choosing to ignore all the bloat that can not be uninstalled, and only in some cases disabled? That eats up our battery, waste data usage on our data plans by stealing data, et cetera...

If you take a Samsung phablet (and that is a HUGE player) they are infested with bloat.
                                      E.g. Bixby

If you try to manually maim all the junk (often even marked as 'System', and in many ways not as easy as it sounds, revoking al kinds of permission app by app), then yes you /can/ get it reasonably lean even on an non-rooted device...
