i no longer care about benchmarks cores. lots of manufacturers are CHEATING on these anyway. and in real world conditions, they dont reflect actual usage speeds. Bunch of marketing hoohaa that we smart consumers should start to ignore.

It also depends on how long it can keep that performance up to and how much heat and throttling comes from it. And how much power it uses.
The a11 and exynos 9810 throttled and used more power at those scores.

These are good. Very good scores.

But they aren't out of the world and probably won't be better than the Snapdragon 855 and the Exynos 9820.

The 3390 single score of Kirin 980 is a huge improvement over the score of 1970 by the Kirin 970. But the Samsung Galaxy S9+ already scores 3770 here, with iPhones having an even bigger score.

The multi-core score of 10318, while great, isn't far off the score of modern 2018 Android flagships. Moreover it is equivalent to the A11 score of the iPhone X and behind the 11472 score of the A12 in the iPhone XS.

So, Huawei's extraordinary claim is not true. https://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_claim_kirin_980_faster_apple_a12_bionic-news-33415.php

After amid cheating on benchmark apps score still got face to show off?

Vegetaholic, 02 Oct 2018Well Single core Numbers was out on the enveleing and they ... more"So it is obvious that Kirin 980 is far from being faster than A12 bionic"
They never claimed it would be faster than A12 Bionic first of all. According to Techradar, which has provided the source for both PhoneArena's and GSMArena's articles, was saying that Huawei had claimed that it would be "better", which means they didn't specify in which area it is going to be better. For example if Huawei was talking about LTE speed, their claim would be true since Kirin 980 DOES support higher level LTE compared to A12 Bionic. They never said it's going to have faster CPU nor GPU as it would be false marketing, obviously.

"So yeah 855 and next exynos will be faster than Kirin 980 and that's a fact"
Most likely only for GPU. As for CPU performance Snapdragon 855 probably will be only as fast as Kirin 980, while Exynos 9820 will have significantly higher single core performance than both.

Vegetaholic, 02 Oct 2018Well Single core Numbers was out on the enveleing and they ... moreActually its the other way around, best chipset of the year.

                                Kirin 955 > SD 810
                                Kirin 960 > SD 821
                                Kirin 970 > SD 835
                                Kirin 980 > SD 845

And i also can say SD 855 will be beaten by next Kirin 990 on the same year. Its a never ending cycle. Dont bother & bashing too much about it, its a great competition out there to prove who has the best one, its benefit us actually.

Well Single core Numbers was out on the enveleing and they match unveiling numbers, multicore is again unimpressive. So it is obvious that Kirin 980 is far from being faster than A12 bionic, which is complete lie from Huawei(not surprised) was obvious it will not be faster. And for competition in android realm, it is good chipset but if you compare to this year's 845 or exynos 9810, which are close to 9 month old. So yeah 855 and next exynos will be faster than Kirin 980 and that's a fact

Realistic1, 02 Oct 2018Not likley.Lol has already happened. Look at real world speed tests the iPhone XS was beaten by the $300 Pocophone with SD845 and the Kirin 970 with GPU Turbo beat the 845 10 to 0 in app opening in another speed test. So the a12 can't even catch up to the 970 with GPU Turbo nevermind the 980. iPhone X lost to the Kirin 970 in real world speed tests too, 980 will wipe the floor with the a12 in real life. Plus the terrible sustained performance the a series is a joke, it's only good in benchmarks what a joke.
