Weekly poll: can five cameras seduce you to buy the LG V40 ThinQ?

07 October 2018
LG is working hard to stay at the bleeding edge of camera tech, but will its efforts be met with a boom in market share or with indifference from users?

I'd be more likely to buy this for it's audio prowess but in that department it's pretty similar to the G7. Not sure the 2 x telecam with narrow aperture will be all that useful apart from good daylight

I hate it for the notch and the relatively small battery (mostly for the notch though). Personally i was thinking of waiting for this years LG V series with the high end qualcomm chipset, but when i saw that it will be notched i went with the nokia 7 plus - first phone frome nokia in 10 years that i want to try (at the moment the lack of an unlockable bootloader(next to none third party development) proves that i was wrong going with that phone).

LG needs to get it back together.
      Company has potential, but:
Camera lenses are not that good.
      Screen quality is so-so.
      Batteries small, and optimization bad.

I know few LG users and none of them are happy with their devices, and fact is that people tend to either defend and justify their buy, or spit on it completley if it is really bad.

r33fd, 07 Oct 20183 good camera < one amazing cameraI don't think there is technology to make one great camera. At least not for affordable price.
Pretty good camera yes, but great.. not at the moment.
If you want "great" pictures with small camera then little pocket cameras are still much better option.

I don't love it. But I also don't hate it. For me personally, with 5G right around the corner and LG, Imo, having so-so batteries this is a pass for me. If I didn't care about 5G and this had a bigger battery and if it has a notch you can hide, I would buy this is a second.

It would be quite a surprise if the battery lasts more than the LG's standard of up to 3 hours.

3 things LG needs to do...
              1. Improve the telephoto lens...it's not good..
              2. Upgrade it to android 9 asap..
              3. Improve overall software update frequency...

Too many cameras imo. 4 is enough

I do not love it, I do not hate it. I've put my cross in hate it because I do not care. sunes that are completely exaggerated with the phone and cameras gradually. Sounds like everyone is professional photographers cmon... Its a phone.
For me, most phones have good cameras.

No, I won't buy it to replace the V30. At least, not now and not at this price. I might buy it after the Galaxy S10 will be released and only if it's proven that the audio output power in increased vs the V30.

I had use LG G4 and LG G6, frank speak LG optimization on animation smoothness is ok only, it is not as smooth as others phone in same year release.

Battery optimization wise is the worst and LG still came with smaller battery capacity.

Above this two point make me not plan going to purchase another LG phone already nor-matter how cool and how I love wide angle camera LG give.

Only quad dac alone is enough to make me vote....bcoz i hv v20....and its insane sounding phone....amd camera can fight even with today's many phones...manual focus..and manual mode is too gud....
Only thing in which lg has to pay attention is sw and optimization...i think they should opt for pure or almost clean android skin like htc....

All I see us three cameras and dual selfie cameras. That's not five. That two distinctive pieces. But LG wants to surf on that technicality.

How can a phone seduce a person? Thats the geekiest question I have heard in my life.

On Topic: Cameras are not the only thing that are great about this phone. Quad DAC is a must for music lovers.

I replied "yes", but my true answer would be "I wouldn't buy it because it has five cameras, but for other reasons".
Recent LG's camera setup is the most usable, I do not remember how many times my LG G6's wide angle camera saved my shots. I do not really need the telephoto with such a low f/stop and 12MP, but it might prove useful to have it.
So, I'd buy it for its wide-angle camera and, most importantly, for its quad DAC. But I won't, because it's way too big, with notch and no in-screen fingerprint scanner.

Worst power consumption causes two or three charging per day. Just one year and battery degrading. When they stop to sell phone they stop support too. You will neverfind battery or vibro or screen by lg in service centers. I faced this isue. As well as man who bought lg "flagship" year before me. There is nothing to prove spending money for that crap.

3 good camera < one amazing camera

Alien , 07 Oct 2018I've never had an LG phone, so I can't say much, but judgin... moreThe battery might seem low on paper, but that doesn't mean it must necessarily be bad in real life usage.

LG V30 also had a 3300 mAh battery, but it's endurance rating was 93 hours ( 8 hours ahead of S9+'s 3500 mAh battery [86h] & just 4 hours short of Note9's 4000 mAh battery [97h] ). With good optimization, even smaller batteries can give great battery time.

It might be the same case with LG V40.

I'm surprised by the overall negative comments on this. This phone literally offers every feature along with a nice premium & sturdy build quality. The camera setup looks pretty good on paper.

On the whole, this phone seems pretty good. I'll wait for reviews before giving my final verdict on it, but i certainly believe this phone deserves a better reception than it's getting.
