5T, 23 Oct 2018Who the hell does this in real life?As I just said, OnePlus users wanting to feel the power of their SD 845 + 8GB RAM.
But nevertheless, it's good to have some resources left over, because the future will definitely bring heavier apps, even standard apps. I think something like the camera app on a phone in 2018 is much more demanding than any blockbuster game on the iPhone 4 / Galaxy S.

Get something for much less. You deserve better than any of the two.

This is pathetic, it's like Google wanted to purposely show the world that their current OS requires more RAM than the competition. Maybe it's part of a plan to justify phasing out Android?

As if the winner matters. Battle of the most crippled phones on the planet - no micro sd expansion, no dual sim on most or all models, no headphone jack, small capacity batteries, toy cameras without manual controls. It doesn't matter which phone wins the rat race. They're both still rats. Get something better for much less.

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2018I never close any apps, unless they are somehow not working... morenot quite. leaving apps open will use more CPU power to maintain it and the more background tasks that are open will burn through your battery. Opened apps in Android aren't like opened apps in IOS where it actually goes idle. Leaving android apps open in the background gives them permission to do background tasks that kill your battery faster.

Plus, Pixel will get slower and laggier as seen on Pixel 2, 1 year old; whereas iPhones tend to age well.
That being said, Android is personally a better OS. So it really boils down to OS preference, and the lifespan (which is greater for the iPhone).

the apps in the background gets closed in the Pixel 3 because of more aggressive battery savings. In real world use, why would you want to open up 20+ apps? At most you will only use a few at a time so there is no reason to keep it up and waste resources like battery and CPU power. These type of testing doesn't really happen for real-world use.

and the layer put on top by the OEMs only makes it worse.

And this is the normal usage behaviour everyone should follow. Closing an app and then opening at a later time will only draw more battery juice compared to keeping it open in the multitasking switcher.

oh noes, people cant play candy crush or clash of clans smoothly - wait...people dont play high end games on high end devices?! ;)

The Pixels are priced well above their abilities. They shouldn't be above $320.
I expect the budget Poco to crush the Pixels as well.

Oh no! An X device opened an app 0.2 seconds slower than an Y device! So it must mean that it’s processor is horrible!

Jesus guys there’s no meaning of “speed tests” unless you get triggered if your device opens an app 0.2 seconds slower.

The real deal is the ACTUAL performance and at that, the pixel 3 does good enough with its snapdragon 845. But it’s obivously worse than most 2018 flagships due to low ram and a wee bit underclocked 845
