Now phones without SD Card Jack and with a Notch and sealed battery are a daily deal we have to face.
We can argue we can opposite we can do many things but our prayers wil leave in wain like when wind moving desert sand from one dune to another.

But... moreYou can have good cases and screen protectors with curved screen but it usually negates the curves. And that's why sadly the churches are barely existent. Just three for looks and ergonomics. The note edge actually had something useable. But more fragile for it and they took away some of the functions in updates.
Foldable?? That has great potential for the future.
But yes meant ideas are expensive and fail. Some are useless. Some just were not implemented or showcased properly.
Unfortunately companies like Samsung could have done even more. But they have their own ideas as you stated and profits on their mind.
Sony has so much potential beyond the phones they release and sadly put such little effort in. But they sure put that price tag there.
Phones used to have so many unique features and designs. Now it's all about popularity with thin slabs and profit margins. And losing unique features and functions. And people defend it. It's depressing...

Nokia did 1.4 microns on a 41mp half inch sensor.
Huawei has 1.4 microns on a 40mp...dont know the technical resolution...1/1.7 inch sensor.
I dont know if it's because it was 40 vs 41 or they just crammed them but they fit it on a smaller sensor. Now that could mean they crammed them too close??? Or it works out fine.
Either way I'd take 38 to 41mp on that 1/1.7 inch sensor with 1.4 to 1.6 if possible microns compared to 48mp with 0.8.
The 38mp shots from the Nokia 808 have astounding levels of natural detail. And that's without ois and the newer lens, software etc.
And we all know even at 48mp the shots will still get over processed. So give us the larger better performing pixels please :(.
This will take a hit to noise and noise reduction, dynamic range, exposure, and low light capabilities. Regardless of the claims.
So unfortunate that we are paying 800 to 1500 for these devices and the cameras have been so stagnate.

But some improvements actualy kills.
For example someone might like idea of having a full screen on phone as a fingerprint reader but downsize of this my phone can be turn on and off by pressing the fingerprint reader or just sliding the finger over it.
When the whole screen will react how i will hold my phone and type???
This is a tech which sounds nice on a paper but is useless in real world.
But as we know the Samsung they will make it anyway just to confirm its not usefull for anyone.
They put tons of money inside just to say its not possible.
Curved screens are the same.
They looks nice on a paper or in real phone but one cant have a curved screen and a screen protector and case (book case for example or thick one like tank) in this situation case will push off your screen protector thuus is useless.
I work for a large mobile phone company in my country so i know.
Sticking like 5-20 screen oprotectors every single day.
Another example was Project Tango or Google tango.
Having a 3D camera which should shoot and recird movable objects was a great idea. But after 2 years from 2014 to 2016 project were cancelled and Lenovo Phab 2 was fourth and last device released to support project tango.
Another tech which was great onn a paper or someones mind. Consumed plenty of money just to cancell it because noone asked for it and noone really used it.
it had so low portfolio of demaning people this tech was sentenced to death before even was created.
Those large megacorporations such as Samsung have so much money the dont care.
They research something which they want. Noone ask basic people do you want this or how do you think this should or would be great if we make it working?
They invest or put dump plenty of money just to realize it will not be as good as it should be.
Noone asked for a foldable phones and yet they going to make some. Tech which cost lots of money which are counted in every single device. (Thus phone like J4 core cost 150 even with specs worth of 100 and less euros)
They should ask but theses companies just dont care.
Another example is a petrol car.
About 100 years ago were created first cars which does not needed any gas or petrol fuel etc. But theses huge raffineries and oil rigs would never put on a market real nonpetrol car unless last drop of oil is gathered from the earth.
Same goes to health and pharmacy. Cure for cancer and AIDS has been researched a long time ago but as very cheap and very available but hospitals pharmacies and others companies holding strings wont release this sucre due to fact treatening human by convient i mean available ways cost a lot of money even life insurance companies would lose a billions every single day.
We live in a world which moving fast but our lifes sparks and fades off like stars in the skyies and noone cares for humans for us. Despite we have the technologies of future we dont use them.
Like Nikolaj Tesla and his creation to give free electricity to everybody.
We all pay for electricity because theses money hungry companies would never allow to give anything free.
When we could make a life lot easier by doing simple things we always obstruct it and go by detour. Shortcuts are avoided and greed power and other sins rules this world.

You do seem very knowledgeable indeed. Just certain things when you talk bad on Samsung and a couple others just seems like you're not seeing the whole picture. Especially with how knowledgeable you seem on other aspects.
Just recieving an update doesn't mean it's better. iOS is the prime example. Getting updates vs android's. Ok.... you got more updates... but clearly as the last few years showed they seem very beta and rushed and usually cause issues and slow it down. And barely bring the usability to it that android's get out box even without an update.
It does take Samsung more time. But they also have more features to work and that carries have to work. And those features generally have their ui more advanced and are things that eventually get adopted into android. And more phones and regions top work with.
People can say useless this or that all they want but in the end it offers and does way more. And in the real world people appreciate them.
And that takes more time and money. And most other companies are really not doing any better except getting a much more simple less featured ui out faster. But even on 8.1 vs 9.0 the Samsung ui is still mostly ahead.
And we have clearly seen that the speed thing is exaggerated too. Especially now a day's. But years ago... speed was a effected a little more... but you know by who else as well? All of them. IPhone included. All phones stutter a little. Especially the further back we go.
However..... definitely always room for improvement

I was merely saying that there are limits here, I have no numbers on these, as it depends on multiply things like the design of the sensor and micro-lenses, and thus is not just an easy fixed ratio limit.
