Because no company needs a gaming phone and that doesn't exist in the first place when all the phones are actually a gaming phones and act like them with the RAM and the big storage and the processors who get enhanced each year from the graphics to the CPUs and many more.

Their smartphones could benefit from better design, I mean this is ugly.
Their other business is I guess going well (PS4). But their OLED TV's are dissapointing, you pay a fortune for it, and then you have burn-in within 6 months, that warranty doesn't cover. Really sad!!!

I can tell from your comment right away that you haven't used a Sony phone from 2017 and onward but I would love to hear your opinion.

At least with the xz2 compact you finally got both a full HD screen and flagship processor but then they scrimped out with that horrid plastic back (in my opinion) and the positioning of the fps was meh. The xz1 compact had a gorgeous body, reminicesent of the Nokia lumia 920.
I'm a massive Samsung fan but I've always admired Sony from afar. I really need to get a Sony phone. Also Sony fans are nicer to talk to lol.

To be honest, when they said that they're not leaving the smartphone world because of the upcoming 5G, I felt skeptical about it. I mean, though there are some quite big jumps in terms of improvement in their current smartphones as compared to their previous ones, it's like as if they are losing confidence, motivation...

Selling 1,6m phone in a quarter, but still makes profit thats bcz they spent only a few money for research. Others sells 4m phones and post loss. Its because sony mobile only spent a small money in RD. While others spent a lot bigger money.
I appreciate them bcz they finally made a big improvement in design this year. But others all made a lot bigger improvement. Almost all bigname are confirmed to make foldable phone, sammy, lg, huawei, lenovo, and we still dont hear anything from sony.

But I agree with you Sony to do more marketing and get creative marinating because in the tech department, they're innovating too and doing more things and make the prices lower so they get the appeal of the masses

Regardless of that, the pricing of any phone shouldn't be beyond $800 because the things they will only do will get in the mainstream

Otherwise I think that the Phones are the marketing system their camera modules. Sony phones has good qualities. Reasonable good software upgrades and quite ofter also waterproofing. They are not the cheapest among the phones, so they don't sell too many of their phones. But their compact line has been uniques and needed in the market.

Sony's main profit generators are its Playstation, music and image sensor businesses.
Smartphones are an afterthought.
If you haven't noticed already, Sony has been scaling down its smartphone business, and killing off certain software e.g. Track ID, Xperia Themes. It's all about cutting costs - Sony probably won't want to invest a lot in its now diminished smartphone business.
