They are faster than 92% of laptops out there, Apple claims, and with their USB-C ports they can do just about anything a Mac can.

FINALLY! Apple creates a tablet with minimal bezels. Now android ones can follow. Now, we need to get the same camera in the tablets that are in the phones. Sad that we have to wait on apple to do it before android tries.

          Well, now that's a killer tablet. I have to hand it to apple for that crazy SoC. Of course, comparing it to a proper laptop is ridiculous as it lacks the i/o support and the performance is still a far cry from something with i7 and gtx1070/1080. I do have an ipad pro though and use it a lot aside from my gaming laptop, so ipads still have their place - it's just not as productivity device replacing the laptops.

          Also, if I had to have a new ios device I would rather spend the money for this beast rather than an iphone xs/xr - you just get a lot more for the same amount of money.

And that's 5 odd pounds... I'd rather work on that than any iPad... Besides, there's a fundamental question. Can it run crysis? Mine can...

              Amazing stuff. I've never got an iPad since old days of non-pen iPads. Now with the full Photoshop experience though I am more interested in affinity and procreate. I might get one. If only Apple could port Xcode to these iPads and allow publishing to the app store through them.

                  people assume those who get laptops get top end ones and imo if you really want to game you buy a decent rig not a laptop..
                  unless you travel around a lot and unless you can plug it into a exterior monitor and use a proper mouse not a touchpad..
                  Also the screen at futher distant than being right in front of you keyboard .. most touch type and don’t want the keyboard behind that close to the screen... imo

                          As a long time iPad user, have to say those thin bezels are extremely beautiful and even more useless. The bezels even on iPad Air 2 and later are enough to give a solid grip when holding the ipad (reading, using camers, etc.). This, this is just like those facetious cellphones where I can't know where to grip while I am holding landscape orientation. This new flood of form-over-function devices (without balanced alternatives) is a thoroughly worthless and shows no signs of stopping.

The time... moreiPad or for that matter any run in the mill tablets(my MiPad bought for $200 still running good after 3 plus years) are good for content consumption. The moment you talk about productivity, the form factor immediately changes to laptops...so iPad or tablets no different from laptops for most...yes you don't have LTE but soon that gets integrated as well. I think Chromebooks are doing great with hardware flexibilities plus lots of cheaper options

                                An ipad consumes around 10w at full load (including screen and everything). An i9 for laptop burns 45w alone! So if the A12x was faster than the i9 intel would be in big troubles.
                                Anyway the point is that ipad SOCs are really powerful for what they are
