Why I won't be buying the new OnePlus 6T even though it's a great phone

Realistically, the 820 platform is a more than capable of handling most tasks. Even with my current Nubia Z11, most apps run flawlessly and changing the battery has given the phone such a bump that I can find no excuses to upgrade. In todays world upgrading has become like the audiophile world of Headphones. Most people cannot discern a difference from real world listening so we buy on the basis on tests run by various apps etc. And as much as we may argue it, the fact that Apple sells so many phones at such premium prices, its clear that this industry went the way of people buying brands basis the marketing rather than value. Frankly, I recently used the Xiaomi Redmi note 5 and it was as smooth as my Z11 and if anything it suggests I should definitely downgrade the next time. Cherry on the cake is that there is a huge amount of developement happening on the mid range devices so that could be fun as well. A large part of this POV is based on the fact I play no games and take no selfies so in that my view may be a colored perspective.

for me 3.5mm jack missing is a big deal. reason i have very good bose noise cancellation head phones i have spent a lot money for them, not ditching them for a phone. by the i still use my dear old ipod with them.

I agree with you, but it’s a OnePlus 5T in my case.
The last metal back from OnePlus and with 8GB of RAM, 128 GB and a 6 inch screen!!!!!!

I have the same feeling. I had a OP3T(my first OP) which was absolutely fantastic! Ultra fast, excellent design, and above all incredible software experience. Unfortunately it fell off my hand and the screen went dead. Bought Nokia 8 which was catastrophe! After working with a OP I couldn't imagine having anything else. As the production for 3t was done, I bought a 5t and even though it's bigger and harder to use one handed, I fell in love with it again. So, I can call myself a OP fan. Problem is OP is not trying to be innovative in small but key features and stay on the cheaper side anymore. It's trying to be like Samsung or Apple with meaningless upgrades for idiots who don't understand what makes the difference and what not.

I contacted OnePlus support and said that Inwould like a battery change and that there is nothing wrong with the battery. I was ready to pay for it but they said that it couldn't be done unless it has problem. So I was left with ny old battery. I also love my 3T and totaly agree that it does the exactly the sane job as 6T. Dont think I need to change it at least until 5G networks come along.

I totally agree with you. I still cannot think of any compelling reason to upgrade from OnePlus 3T to any $500+ phone for now. I am really looking forward to get the battery replaced as you said it gave a new life to the phone.

There are two types of people. 1. Those who upgrade their phones after a set amount of time. 2. Those who upgrade their phone only when they feel the need to upgrade.
OP is the second type, and IMO that is the more sensible reasoning to upgrade your phone, even though I personally belong in the first group.

I sort of agree. I am still using my Oneplus 2, even though it is 3+ years old. The phone still is able to outperform most mid range phones in the market today.
I am disappointed OP never wanted to support this phone from day 1 though, but the developers for the custom roms have helped keep this phone alive and I am quite grateful for that.

My problem with this phone is that it took out the headphone Jack and the micro SD slot which is essential but added a useless 20MP secondary camera. A lot of you guys don't realize this because you guys assume the 20 MP is telephoto but it is not. It is just for depth sensing. The 2x for the camera is DIGITAL zoom. Who needs a 20 MP depth sensor? The pixel 3 and the S9 don't need it, yet produce better photos than the One plus 6t. And an S9 is not that far off from the price of a one plus 6t.

I don't like the screen size of 6T it is too large for me. Under 5.5 inches bezel-less phones are becoming rare.

I also performed a hard reset once I got the new battery. Since then my phone heats up a lot less, battery lasts really long and the performance is pretty much as good as my Cousin's OP6. Really with 820 Qualcomm turned a corner in terms of flagship performance. Don't let paper specs fool u cos in real life 820 is still gonna give u flagship experience. If I gave u my phone right now and told u it had 845 and u judged it only on day to day performance, u won't doubt me.

See this is where you lost me with your knowledge!! The fingerprint sensor on the Op3 is the fastest ever there is. Comparing that to the in display fingerprint of Op6t is stupid, plus the performance, you can't really match the performances of an outdated 802 with 845 common that too by replacing the battery Hahahah seriously dude.

With ridiculous amount of money for a phone today compared to just 1 to 2 years ago. We should hold on to what we have now and make the manufacturer reconsider their move to lower their asking price.
Somewhat naive for me, i know. But a dreamer could dream.

See how China cheap phones destroys the mobile market.
Because of the easy price entry, people can easy access to phones. So the market is now saturated with so many phones. People get demanding as well! Unreasonable needs, critics and bad mouthing. Hell, if one just spend $499, they now demand the ENTIRE world of features and needs.. else theres gonna be tons of dislikes and ranting.
Once the poor tasted a jem.. theres no turning back.

My reason is because it's too tall.
I'm perfectly content with my 2016 smartphones too. Typing from my iPhone SE right now. With the spare batteries and microSD cards I have for my LG G5 and V20, I really don't need to buy another new smartphone until 2022 or until with one breaks.
Buying new smartphones annually for incremental upgrades is really a waste of time and money. It's catered for YouTube tech hipsters who hype them up for a living. Most people can live using a smartphone for 4-5 years nowadays. The urge to buy a new one is for showing off.
