Nexus 6P and 5X get their last guaranteed OTA updates

Maybe Google wants to round off the year with one last update? I just got the December update on my 6P.

    Yeah I still rock my Nexus 5X as a secondary phone! There are minor hiccups here and there but still is working fine. I once had a bootloop yes, but LG repaied it without charging a single penny. Last I checked there was the October security patch (November's should be there too).

    See there's no reason to blame Google as it promised two major OS upgrades at the time of 5X and 6P's launch and kept their words with an additional year of security updates. However seeing Apple's iPhone 5S still receiving their latest OS, it just felt unfair that Google launched the 5X with just 2 GB of RAM which in the Android world is too less for newer and heavier OS updates. While 6P had 3 GB RAM still it would be unfair to update just it to 9.0 as the 5X too was its little brother.

    Anyway it was great to spend time with the 5X, gave me an adventurous experience with Android which I won't be able to do so at least for the time being because I am reluctant to buy the Pixels. If Google really launches a more affordable version of the Pixel as the rumour goes then I'll see to it if the ultimate Android experience is really worth it with that "Lite" version of Pixel.

    I'm still amazed at how my 5X's camera capability is as good, if not better in normal still shots, as my V30+'s especially with the Google camera port. Such were the high quality of the legendary Nexus phones.

    Now my sweet little 5X, you may rest peacefully in my cosy drawer as you have served me well. I'll talk to you often when me and my V30+ need some company *_* I won't even give you away anywhere else since you occupy a big big place in my heart.

      I am using for the last 4 year. No repair use. Just working fine till date .

        Yup, definitely sad and almost angry that my phone is not supported anymore, though perfectly functional and fast enough. I have PC laptops 10 years old that still get windows 10
        security updates.

        To be honest, Google is losing me with this blow. I've started with the Nexus 1, tried Samsung (and drowned under bloatware and unpatched Android version), then went back to Nexus. I've not been convinced by the Pixel line, it's expensive for what it is/seems and everyone seems to complain about a defective screen or battery.

        Apple offers 5 years updates with its smartphones, which demonstrates it is possible to support a device for a reasonable amount of time. Why can't Google?

        I'm just tired at the idea to be forced to look for my "next smartphone" because manufacturers are making this complicated.

          I have a 8 YO cheap laptop which got upgraded to win10 and still getting updates.
          and I think laptop industry is also fragmented as hell with that long support period..
          Shame on google for neglecting such great devices and making such lame excuses.

            They must get at least 10 years of OTA updates due to the fact that the initiator of Nexus is not a small company but a gigantic one.

              It's early 2009 (almost 2008) device! That means the Nexus project is over 7 years old. I'm not including the Google G1/HTC Dream since that is technically not a Nexus...and I think we all love to forget about Honeycomb and the Nexus Tablets.

                Google is great at getting their phones updated. Maybe it's because they don't really make that many of them, so each phone can get more focus. Some other companies release dozens of phones every year, but they all get forgotten after a few months.

                  This is hypocritical, Google blames manufacturers and fragmentation for the lack of updates but refuses to keep their own phones secure

                    Not even Google will support their own phones past 3 years... or support any version of Android more than 12 months.

                      Nexus line can't be replaced so easily, I still rock a Nexus 5 and 5X since their day 1 to the market, and they're still working as they should. Some hiccups here and there which are obvious with the old hardware and lack of ram, but when it comes to customization HANDS down the best in my opinion.

                          I still have a nexus 5 I got in 2013. (^_^)

                          My main phone, and it's still really good for day to day use and light browsing and messaging throughout the day.

                            One of my friends is still using his Nexus 6p. Zero issues as per his claim. The camera still holds up well and Android 8.1 is still fairly recent to use.

                            I'd say it was one of the better Nexus phones.

                              I'm glad the Nexus 6P is still getting updates, unfortunately I got rid of mine quite a while ago when they updated the phone to Nougat and everyone began experiencing battery issues.

                                So nice to see Google leading by example and not extending their own android phones support to force customers to look elsewhere. Had the Nexus 5x but it stopped responding to any buttons and windows will not recognize the drivers correctly. Thanks for nothing Google.

                                  Rest in peace Nexus line... (2010-2018) as a Truther of Android... I feel nostalgic. You felt cool. Wasn't the best around in battery life nor camera. But you delivered the true sense of Android AS IT SHOULD be.

                                    What a #WORSTPHONE #Nexus6P. It is much slower than SD 425 now. Battery is almost worst...with only 2 hrs screen on time and turns off automatically at 20%. Speakers which was stereo speakers ... now sounds like hell
