How is this going to benefit Samsung, Apple and Huawei in the slightest? All three of them make better chips than Qualcomm.
The only chipmaker it's going to benefit is the Helio guys.

The bottom line of this article is the US federal court is looking for ways to earn more money from the leading companies in the tech industry.

Maybe Exynos starts to become relevant again. Even Surge (SoC by Xiaomi) may return to phones. Even Kirin would benefit from this. All in all, this is important to bring SoC prices down, which may bring smartphones pricing down. Or, ta least, make a splash in the market, in the sense that Qualcomm will not be the only relevant SoC.

It's unreal when a person can't think logically about an issue, stop letting your hate cloud your logic and judgement. Maybe you need to educate yourself on the subject matter, its not that difficult to understand once you calm down.

Why am I not surprise by most of the comments here. It's unbelievable how uneducated most here are about this subject. It's clear some are posting here with no knowledge of this case. We are talking about standard patents here which is essential for things to work well. The judge is right here, Qualcomm's patents were accepted into the standard with the promise they would license it on FRAND terms. What they eventually did is once their patents were accepted as part of the standard they went back on their word and instead force others to buy their parts and refuse to license the standard patents.

If the standard body knew that was their plans, they never would have accepted their patents contributions and Qualcomm would have been cast out. This is not surprising at all since Qualcomm have already been found guilty of that in many countries. The US was their largest and most important one and it looks like they will also be found guilty. This is a case largely build on Apple challenging their abusive behavior, and Apple was right.

The US didn't help qualcomm against apple lawsuit
The US ban chinese modems and make qualcomm give up their invention to others for free?

Now, I agree Qualcomm has to share their innovation. But they shouldn't give it away for free/cheap. However, they cannot sell their licence at a prohibitive cost.

It's all about being balanced/fair. Qualcomm gets rich, the market doesn't stagnate, everyone is happy.

And of course Apple will choose how much they want to pay, not how much they have too.
I laugh when they said Qualcomm was ripping off other companies.

Real value of Apple products is 35% less than the price they sell.

Pathetic! Qualcomm worked really hard to be at this position and achieve what they achieved after all the efforts. And this Hardware superiority brings them the Edge. And every corporation is free to have that edge.
Else force every brand in every field to license their tech with every other brand. That way no one would have any advantage over the other.

Monopol is never good for customer's, but i don't see it will change something big.

You are free to keep your technology as a trade secret and not file a patent, but in that case you can't tell others not to do the same thing once they figure it out.
