Samsung's new Exynos chipset powering the Galaxy S10 gets unveiled next week

09 November 2018
It will probably be called Exynos 9820 and may come with a dual-core NPU.

Had they resisted the urge to make empty boasts it could be considered decent, but with those claims out they literally flopped.

To achieve the same performance, a wide design operating at a lower frequency is almost always more efficient than a narrow design operating at a higher frequency, like Exynos 9810's G72MP18 vs. Kirin 970's G72MP12.

Not sure what you mean by "flopping" but the 7nm Kirin chip is pretty much the fastest you can get on the Android side for now.

Comparing anything to Apple (A12) is a facetious remark because there is no alternative if you want Android OS.

And no, at their current state its power consumption is bigger than the performance advantage:

Shanti Dope, 11 Nov 2018Let me clear out that I'm not worshipping Samsung or anythi... moreWell Itialian people were speaking of something else.
And i rather trust Italia than Samsung.
Samsung cares only for money but people cares for well working device which dont need to be changed every next year.

Let Me Put It This Way, Samsung Underclocks Their Mongoose Cores Everytime So That They Match Up To Qualcomm's Kryo Cores(It Will Still Happen On M4 But Not Likely For M5) But Gets Better Performance Scores & Real Life Efficiency Too.. BTW, Samsung Isn't The King For Speedtests As You Know Because Of Their UIs But Hope One UI Changes The Game For Them..

dude111, 11 Nov 2018Read the article. The tempest are comparable to the A73 ... moreI assumed that it must be beyond 15,000 because you said that each Tempest cores are about as powerful as a Cortex A73 @2.1GHz, in which I assumed that each of them would score around 1500, and so 4 of them would equate to a multi-score of 6000, and adding up to the 2 Vortex cores would equate to 15,000 or even more.
I guess I missed the math, but I certainly still expected more than 12,000.

Going back to the main point, Apple might be underclocking the Tempest cores by a huge margin to save more energy, because even a non-throttling Cortex A53 could open apps faster than the iPhone XS.
This must explain the efficiency upgrade of the A12 Bionic (other than the 7nm node) compared to the A11 Bionic.
Your article also claims that the Mistral cores of the A11 Bionic is more powerful than the Tempest cores of A12 Bionic, so it means that Apple really did underclock the small cores this year to improve on efficiency.

That's all I can say, and at least we can say that Apple did an incredible job with their chipsets.

Exynos 9810 CPU paired with Mali-G76 MP20 would make this chipset faster and better than Snapdragon 845 and Kirin 980.

"Consumes a lot of power" no they actually don't. It's a bit more power hungry, but the performance advantage is very significant.
Take a look at this: https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/07/15/exynos-9810-crosses-4000-points-on-geekbenchs-single-core-test/
If we're talking to CPU standpoint, this is very impressive, especially for Android platform which has always trailed behind to even Apple's A9 until last year.

The tempest are comparable to the A73 on integer, and curious enough, the A12 scores as you said: 15,000 on integer multi, although it seems like you are just adding up each score individually. Keep in mind that every time you add a core, the score does not increase linearly as CPU does not have good parallelism...

Second, tempest cores consume around 500mW (at 1.6Ghz), and powering up two, three or all four at the same time does not increase consume linearly either. Its the same with others cores.

Dont know what is the power consumption for the A55, last time i read about little cores, the A53@1.3Ghz on a 20nm process consumed 270mW.

The M3 had been proved to be a somewhat-bad design as it consumes a lot of power with no much benefit.

Anonymous, 10 Nov 2018but qualcom makes best chipsets maybe their cpu is not as f... moreI understand that CPU isn't the only thing that matters, but Qualcomm is seriously trailing behind in this department in years. And it's affecting others, as Samsung is underclocking their superior Mongoose M3 cores on the Exynos 9810 in order to match the performance of the Kryo 385 Gold on the SD845. If this wasn't the case, then we might be having a worthy rival to Apple's CPU by this time already.
Adreno is about their only saving grace, and even then, Apple has got them beaten in this aspect.
XS Max is leading the bunch, with 90FPS in some tests against 60FPS (at best) of Adreno 630.
5G modems are about their main game next year, and I hope they don't fail to deliver in that aspect.

O S, 10 Nov 2018You are correct about Qualcomm not doing enough in regards ... moreThey can lessen their investment in modem designs to add more to core designs, because slight modification isn't going to cut it for them.
Their new SD675 is employing 4 (I think) Cortex A76 cores, which makes me believe that they have something even better for the SD8150.
Qualcomm can do what Samsung did this year, who started everything from scratch and got successful for it.
Exynos 9810 already beats the A10 Fusion in CPU, while Kirin 980 barely matches it with pure Cortex A76 design.
