It does light up a point though. If you're putting back an authorized AND fixed component. will the T2 chip will unbrick these laptops? :P

How is this even legal!? Once you have bought the device it should be your choice as to how and where you have it repaired.
For the manufacturer to boobytrap the device so that it breaks beyond repair if serviced by an unauthorized 3rd party would be tantamount to criminal damage on the part of Apple.
Not to mention the waste of resources and the needlessly wasteful impact on the environment if your only option is to send to landfill a device that would otherwise be able to be repaired in the most efficient manor.
It’s morally reprehensible to force owners to submit to such an antisocial policy.
Supporting local independent repair shops is vital for a fair and varied marketplace.
Imagine if this was applied to any other consumable!? Eg your car manufacturer did the same thing, you could only use authorised garages and if you attempted any repairs/servicing yourself your car would self destruct!

I hate apple. I can't deny that nor fool myself to love them. However. I am perfectly aware that people have different preferences. Some prefer having X. and others to Have Y. I. as Kiyasuriin. Judge apple only upon their actions and mistakes just as I would to Android OEMs. I am nor an Apple Fangirl. Nor an android hater. but when it regards apple. I will judge one because they did a mistake and In my honest opinion they could've done it better and NOT because it's "them".
I am not that good in explaining it too thoroughly. so forgive me.

To those who are defending this, we're not angry that they're doing this. It's the implications that are the problem. Repairs are extremely expensive from Apple, which would be solved had they not gone through the effort to make sure you can't repair it in the first place on your own

Walter C. Dornez, 13 Nov 2018It's an agricultural companyIt takes care of argicultural stuff. true. but I mean. I don't even understand a thing about Argiculture over the biological proecedures. I am not a farmer. I am a typical city-person.

AnonD-800802, 13 Nov 2018The thing is people here assume only Apple can repair Apple... moreBut how can you tell a third party repairer has access to approved parts before you book in, have a repair and something goes wrong? You can't, so Apple Stores win (and by the way there are fake Apple Stores). But thanks for your overly simple analysis

xyrotic, 13 Nov 2018I have an laptop that's 2 times more expensive than your ma... moreI had a macbook for my studies. You know what I did FIRST THING before even using it? switching it's OS to Windows. I am more of an Android person than Apple. However that doesn't mean I'm an apple hater. Sure. there are things I dislike on their products and procedures of doing stuff. but I won't aimlessly bash them JUST BECAUSE they are f-cking Apple. I will judge one's action. but not the entity itself.
p.s. After about a month of owning a macbook I sold it for a Dell Laptop. felt much better.

Anonymous, 13 Nov 2018Anyone else thought this is a good thing? I mean it has to... moreWhich is fair enough. But tell the customer security has been compromised as a result of such a repair and suggest action (such as remove sensitive data). Don't just brick the thing.... leading to no options but the bin.... this is disgusting if true

For example iPhone X "most durable glass" back = 500$. Yeah it is true.

All I can do is laugh at those who protect Apple and still willing to buy their products. It is like if you willingly put your head under the sword.

So not only did you already pay dramatically too much for it but now if all those requirements are not meant then basically Apple can brick your device....
They can brick your device for you and then you get left with the cost of them admittedly Brockville your device?????
And what happens when this chip malfunctions and bricks the device?? How much work do you have to go through??
And in either case are your files retrievable??
This is beyond ridiculous.... And what's even more scary is how many comments are probably here defending this....
