It's also eyeing the first spot as the biggest smartphone manufacturer by focusing more on its high-end handsets.

lyndino, 14 Nov 2018So Huawei is going to copy Google's super-res zoom software... moreHuawei doesnt need to. They already have the better 3x optical zoom using independent telephoto lens & 5x hybrid zoom using telephoto + 40mp res camera.

lyndino, 14 Nov 2018So Huawei is going to copy Google's super-res zoom software... moreBy that logic Google is "copying" the pixel shifting technology which has been used by Sony, Panasonic and many other DSLR manufactures for many years now. I bet in their next Pixel line up they will "copy" other manufacturers and use optical zoom because obviously super res zoom isn't good enough to match the quality of a dedicated telephoto lens... just like they did for a notch, glass back, and (absence of)headphone jack etc.

Seriously this whole who's-innovating-and-who's-not argument needs to stop, 99% people in the world simply look at how well the actual products are made and how well they work in real life, then buy their favourite, not through what process they have been made. For example, why did people praise Galaxy S9's super slow-mo when they bashed Sony for doing the same thing first with XZ Premium? Because Sony's implementation was horribly user-unfriendly and barely usable, whereas Samsung's was not and was more practical.

Innovation to me is the Infinity display.
Innovation to me is the S Pen
Innovation to me is the 960 FPS that Sony introduced on the XZ Premium (I think that phone 2 years ago)
Innovation to me is the Samsung folding phone (although just a public display of a working prototype) it's still quite the feat.
            Stuff like that.
Just because these chinese knock-off brands stand on the shoulders of giants and alter ideas to suit their own style does not make them innovative. By the sounds of everyone on here you can all build a better processor, arrange cameras in a better configuration and code your own software to be better than the established giants.

Name one 'innovation' in smartphones and if you bother to look into it, you'll find it existed elsewhere. Innovation today usually means making things smaller.
Hell, even Face ID was trumpeted as innovation, when Windows laptops and even like two Windows phones had that when Windows 10 came out.

But as a person who lives in the West (UK), I can confirm that a lot of people don't trust Chinese manufacturers. There's a fear that Chinese goods are poor quality - which to be fair is unfounded in Huawei's case. But the bigger fear is that our personal data is being snooped by the Chinese government.

That might seem mad, but it's genuinely a thing. And a barrier for Chinese tech companies to overcome, namely in the UK and US.

2.) 24mm FL [50mm EFL] Wide-angle with 5-axis OIS and dual-pixel autofocus will serve both as standard wide-angle and normal view, the human eye normal view is 50mm FL.
3.) 70mm FL [135mm EFL] Telephoto with 5-axis OIS and dual-pixel autofocus will achieve both 3x zoom and 5x zoom
4.) 200mm FL [400mm EFL] Super Telephoto with 5-axis OIS and dual-pixel autofocus will achieve the 10x zoom Huawei wants to implement. As regards camera shake from unsteady hand, it won't cause blurry shots since AI will smooth out the shot, Google already does this in Super-res zoom.
