Moto G7's battery capacity doesn't instill confidence

19 November 2018
The Moto G7 could pair a 6.4-inch screen with a lowly 2,820mAh power pack.

Unbelievable that new devices have less then 3.000mAh. They want to sell the lightest smartphone on the market? I would gladly carry extra weight for more autonomy than half a day.

They just can't rely solely on software optimizations.
It's just an added benefit of prolonged battery life, but the real endurance of a phone still lies beneath the pure hardware battery capacity of the device.
It must first have an average size battery for the phone's overall size, and software optimization will just play the game and make it last longer than expected.

2820mAh for a 6.4" display?? Didn't they learn a thing from Sony in the past?
Xperia XA1 Ultra's 2700mAh battery powering a 6" display was proven insufficient to achieve an average battery life, but their software optimization managed to somehow make things better for it, but that's if Motorola has the same level, or even better, skills to make things last longer.

I'm sure I don't want a phone where I have to carry around a charger all the time. There are many other phones out there to choose from.

Anonymous, 19 Nov 2018Why should it be "the year for behemoth batteries"? We have... moreWell, Samsung added 700 mah to their Note8's 3300.
          Huawei touched 5k mah.
Even OP added 450 odd to OP6's 3300.
Motorola in their budget range brought Moto One Power with a 5k mah cell.
It's just that they can, but why put the hassle.
And it's quite evident that Lenovo is just not interested in improving their Smartphone business.
I am waiting for the day they sell the Moto division to someone who deserves, and is capable of maintaining it's legacy.

What are some of these phone companies smoking? Keep adding bigger and bigger screens but with smaller batteries. For me, anything over 5.7 inches should have 3400mah minimum

We have not seen any improvements in battery technology for years, so with the same old technology, you think battery size would massively increase? The iPod touch 5 from 2012 had a 1030mAh battery, the 6th gen in 2015 had exactly 13 mAh more, and this pretty much wraps it up what development batteries had in those 3 years.

Such a large size for such a small battery, if it turns out to be true. And SD660 is not exactly battery-friendly. Fast charging doesn't completely offset this drawback.

Powerbanks and Fast C... moreMy thought's exactly when it come's to the super duper chargers that are being released. Why do we need a behemoth battery if the phone can charge from 0 to 75% in 30 minutes??? If people want super duper chargers then make batteries smaller and throw more tech inside the saved space.

Powerbanks and Fast C... moreWell, technically speaking battery capacities are just degrading easily with lower capacities. Powerbanks and Fast Chargers are there yes, but think of it. Do you really want your phone spending moments connected somewhere especially when you need them the most?
