Anonymous, 29 Nov 2018Smartphones sales in general are all slowing down on a glob... moreMost Android OEMs have actually been losing money for years. Industry profits were split between a dominant Apple, a healthy Samsung, and then they fell off a cliff; scraps fought over by the rest. Things have changed a bit in the lasts couple, Huawei has been coming on in a big way, but LG, HTC, Sony, Motorola, Lenovo, etc. are still hurting.

Well as long as apple still the sole iOS and macOS platform hardware provider(obviously, they made the OS), apple product will still sell because the lock down nature of it ecosystem. It can be viewed as monopoly but in legal-ish-grey-ish way (ie: app store is the only store in iPhone and no sideloading app)
For reference, it is very easy to switch from Android to iOS, but it's very hard to switch from iOS to Android

if i have understand it good, Apple makes more money from SW...and if they keep selling less and less devices, they are going to loose market share and when people change OS, their revenue from SW will be dropping to.
So they have to find a way to offer their devices to more people, not less....especially once that US spy agencies stops paying subsidey

QCOM, 29 Nov 2018The higher price of an iPhone is pretty reasonable. You got... moreYou may get updates for about 4 year for an iPhone, but the last updates tend to make the phone quite a bit slower.
And there is nothing keeping people from using any other phone for 4 years. A phone doesn't become unusable because there is a newer version of the OS out there. And Apps keep their compatibility for more than 4 years. It is more likely that an OS update makes the phone unusable, than not getting one.
The iPhones don't come with superior build quality, so that will not keep them lasting longer. There are many mid-rangers with the same build quality.
But iPhones do have a high resale value, but that would rather speak for not keeping the phone for 4 years, as by then the resale wont generate that much.
iPhones do have faster in OS performance, so for gamers buying iPhones could make sense (this is a reason for the good benchmarks, we have no idea how their CPUs would perform running Android). Though battery-life isn't that good, and neither are charging speed, so that can be a problem for gamers. iOS do have a lot of games, something that can't be said for MacOS.
iOS is much better at handling audio and midi, but that mostly matter for music software that makes sense on bigger screens, so that is more about iPads than iPhones.

Not sure why it matters if Android has it after Apple? Could it just be that it became relevant so they did it. Dont try to make Apple any better than Android, both were late.

Apple's VP of Product Marketing is clearly in denial stage. Downplaying reports of production cuts of the newer iPhones (XS, XS Max and XR), the ramping up of production of the older iPhone 8/8 plus and resurrection of iPhone X production, all point to serious trouble for Apple that should never be downplayed or ignored. If Apple doesn't do something fast, its stock market performance will continue to plunge.
iOS has always been a limited and restrictive system compared to android. It doesn't give users the freedom to customize the interface to their liking, transfer and share files seamlessly and freely, and provide additional value and software features that shouldn't require spending additional money on a separate gadget (Example: buying Apple tv just so you can wirelessly screen share your iphone screen on smart tv's, which any cheap android phone can do without purchasing any additional accessory). At the same time, the iPhone hardware is also very limited and restrictive: no micro sd expansion, no headphone jack, no dual SIM, limited screen size and hardware options, etc. If iOS and the iPhone hardware only corrected those deficiencies, the iPhone would still be relevant despite its premium price. As it is, Apple keeps on removing features or changing them for the sake of profit with no real benefit while jacking up prices to insane levels while adding nothing new that is truly useful to the user. It's losing prestige and upper class appeal. It's bad for Apple as it could only mean one thing: its eventual marginalization as a phone brand. No longer a popular premium phone, but a marginal phone only very few people will buy anyway just because they want to be different and be perceived as ultra rich, and not necessarily because it's a significantly a better phone to use.

Will see in a few years how the price will go up to 5k for the latest and the best iphone, i remember when the flagship phone was around 400-500£ and people were happy to upgrade every yeah or every next year, so that way they earning more and selling more, but unfortunately that’s not the case anymore.
