Portable consoles have a long, profitable history and phone makers have been trying to crack into that market for over a decade.

Gaming phones will have 99.99% of their games from console emulators, with the rest as modernized flash games with paid cheat codes. Also known as microtransactions.

To be a gaming g phone you need a larger screen and on screen controls that make sense. At this point I wish more games worked with controllers as the on screen controls are a poor substitute for a good controller. Also add a real headphone jack. I don't want the Bluetooth taken by headphones that always need a charge or a dongle. Many games could be ported to androind but without

Now that the sliding trends are back, care to bring back gaming phone ala Xperia Play anyone? That built in sliding gamepad alone can distinguish between other flagship smartphone.

Sony/Ericsson p800-p910i series made great emulators for playing old original lucas arts games on.. Still got a collection of p series, if I go out somewhere with young students etc about, they are amazed at just how good those old games look, specially when you explain that the hardware is nearly as old as they are and games older !!!

G.Agrianitis, 02 Dec 2018Man, Xperia play was so hard to replace for me because the ... moreIMO, sony and ericcson are the best partner company in the world. But sad they are separate now. There phones are very unique design every models.

So unfortunate. The Xperia play had so much potential. But they never came out with an updated one, and didn't include joysticks which could have more than easily fit.
And then they messed up the Vida in the second one.
And now look what they are doing with their phones now.
Why does Sony have all this potential and then ruin everything?

So smartphones which are made to look like portable consoles got beaten by actual portable consoles? Who knew.

Asus needs to upgrade antennas, battery and gadget compatability before they can enter the market! And a 9 months old phone, should never have "baby" problems!

Man, Xperia play was so hard to replace for me because the built-in gamepad worked wonders for any games that supported it, not to mention emulators!
Wish a modern-day sequel would be released.

Sad story but it's true. real consoles tend to win.
However that ROG PHONE is awesome.

Every flagship phone is same as gaming phone with same hardware. Middle class phones play games well enough too. Difference can be only in games. If these portable consoles have better choices then android/ios have in there play store.
