Anonymous, 05 Dec 2018New kirin comes with Mate series. P30 will have 980So we can say that Kirin 980 is flagship SoC for most of 2019 Huawei lineup? Cuz it Wil have to fare against SD855 phones for 10 months at least....

The benchmark tests need to change to catch the cheaters.
If they make the test stress for several hours, and show temperature, the score over the time, CPU and GPU % of power used and the current and wattage of the power used you will clearly see the ones who tweak to get a quick high score and the ones who can keep a high score without throttling.

MadMel, 05 Dec 2018lol...even P20 will not be obsolete in 2019 with K970 so do... moreI'd rather say like 70k cuz kirin 980 only scores a bit above 300k only with cheat mode on...and cheat mode in is not sustainable for every day use due to excessive heating, trothling and battery consumption. In normal mode it scores 270k which is way below SD845 chips. And I run w Mate 10 pro....only thing I keep it for is battery....i can feel his inferiority compared to my ex OP6 in every day use.

Anonymous, 05 Dec 2018So basically, they want a to sell two chips. The SD855 and ... moreProbably true. The first 4g phones with Qualcomm had terrible battery life and I suspect the 855+5g modem will have the same problem on 5g.

Shanti Dope, 05 Dec 2018For the first half of 2019, then Kirin 990 will come to rep... moreWrong again, for next 11 months Huawei rolls on w Kirin 980. Otlr can u confirm that P30 and P30 Pro will come with Kirin 990? After all P series is a company's flagship that will duel with other flagships carrying SD855 SoC.

Don Hrle, 05 Dec 2018Wrong,Kirin 980 is companies flagship for 2019. lineup For the first half of 2019, then Kirin 990 will come to replace it on the second half, up until the first half of 2020, then the Kirin 1000 on the second half and so on.

indiefund, 05 Dec 2018Actually the Kirin 980 got introduced in the end of Aug 31... moreIn CPU they don't differ much, but let's talk about the overall performance.
GPU, for instance, is decades ahead on this chip. Well obviously, since the 10-core Mali G76 couldn't even quite match the Adreno 630, let alone the Adreno 640 on this one.
This one has an integrated 5G modem inside, at least Qualcomm could provide their own on this one.

Anonymous, 05 Dec 2018Nah. Apple just happened to be hip. Branding plus Jobs mark... moreLet's put it into perspective that Steve Jobs did indeed marketed the product so heavily, it still doesn't take away the fact that the product itself was a huge success.
It did have missing things, but everything on it pretty much works well.
Today, there are those who do crazy things for the sake of being first or being innovative, but end up being underwhelming and downright disappointing.
See the Kirin 980?? Huawei wanted to claim the title of the world's first 7nm smartphone SoC so badly, now look at its thermal control. This SD855 is surely going to destroy it in every way, due to the fact that Qualcomm took their precious time to ensure that the product itself would deliver to the expectations of the people (and even beyond that at times) and that they would cause no problems as much as possible.

You know, I'd rather take the given time and submit my homework exactly on the due date, instead of submitting way too early, knowing I didn't bother carefully and rightfully doing the task and leads to failure. Unless of course I'm that superhuman who can do things so fast and still achieve great results, and in this case, Huawei isn't this kind of person.

Anonymous, 05 Dec 2018That wasnt . There are already alot of touch screen phone w... moreBut we all know how the first iPhone has set the starting baseline for the smartphones we have today.
Without it, our Note 9, Mate 20 Pro, XS Max, etc. wouldn't be on the same level that they are at right now.
It was a huge leap because it was all different from what was available beforehand. It was executed so well, I wouldn't even mind using it today as a backup phone.

Now, we could've discovered many things already if only the manufacturers took risk and really tried hard to contribute to the development of the technology.
If people were as advanced-thinkers today as they did when there were little to nothing, I might guess we could've had in-screen fingerprint scanners working very well already since last year.

It's not always about the money. If one wants progress, no huge amount of money is too much for him/her to stop from doing it.
